We stayed for 4nights at this budget hotel, and the word budget fits the title well. The rooms were small and basic, but were comfortable and fine for the money you pay. Only downside is there is no view, windows are not doubled glazed making it freezing at night and the walls were super thin. You can hear everyone walk down corridor and conversations in the next room. The worse thing was on the Saturday night we got kept up until 4am from a group of girls partying one side and a couple drinking arguing and a baby crying the other side. Reception is only opened till 9.30pm so you have to deal with matters on your own.
There is a kitchen on the roof and a washing machine. Personal I wouldn't serve food to a dog in there. The shared bathrooms were cleaned daily and were in fine working order, just make sure you use them when not many others do otherwise the hot water occasionally turns cold!
Reception staff were really nice and helpful and there is a couple of computers with printing facilities. Great location at the top of CBD and easy tram links around the city.

Location is very good (not far from the Parliament); room is quite small, with TV, fridge and kettle.
This place should need a complete restyling as it really is quite old.
Communal kitchen is old, small and not convenient: it is upstairs and outdoor and cannot be used by more than 2 people.

My boyfriend and I stayed City Centre, during the 2013 Australian Open and had a fabulous time! As we were on a tight budget as Australia is quite a bit more expensive than what we are used to in Canada, it was great! For it being summer and during a large event the price was amazing. The rooms, bathroom and kitchen were always spotless! Although it did not have air conditioning, being Canadian we were a bit hot, but got through. Everything is within walking distance which was fabulous, and it is on a cute little street which is a bit hidden! Great for young couples looking for a place to stay, in the city!

Walking distance from Federation Square, and therefore from cafes, shopping and nightlife - and the airport shuttle bus. Clean rooms with shared bathroom but all the amenities I needed - an in-room fridge and kettle, and TV, free Wifi (I've paid $29 per 24 hours in far more up-market Melbourne hotels) and a roof-top seating area and basic kitchen if you want to sort your own breakfasts etc. Saw signs to laundry - probably also basic, but helpful when you're packing lighter than the length of your visit. Thin walls turned out not to be a problem when I was there, though nearby building work (jul/13) meant you get up with the builders. Never a queue for the clean bathrooms. Reception not 24 hours. Overall, comfier than I was expecting given the price and location, I will stay here again and I'm recommending it.
