Owner description: Completed in 1870, the Melbourne Town Hall is at the heart of the city's cultural and civic activity, hosting theatre, weddings, receptions and exhibitions. So many of the decisions that have helped shape Melbourne were made within the heritage-listed Town Hall. A mix of bluestone and Tasmanian freestone, the classically designed building features a clock tower and fine masonry. To go behind the scenes and visit the grand Council Chambers and stand where the Beatles and Abba waved from the impressive portico, take a Town Hall tour. As well as the Council Chambers, the Town Hall features a large auditorium, which was remodelled following a fire in 1925 and includes panels decorated with sepia figures. The auditorium's Grand Organ has featured in cutting-edge performances by a range of artists including Philip Glass, Paul Grabowski and the Necks. A free lunchtime concert series has been running since 2003, and the Grand Organ Museum offers visitors the opportunity to learn more about the organ and breathe air into its venerable pipes. Join a free Melbourne Town Hall Tour from Monday to Friday with tours departing at 11am and 1pm. Bookings essential.

Melbourne Town Hall comes alive around April time with the Comedy Festival. This is by far my favourite thing to do when the crappy weather starts to roll in. You can catch a show for $20 and it's guaranteed a great night out!

I just attended a conference luch over there. The building is nice and the inside is a little bit dull.

My friend and I went on a tour of the Town Hall. Overall, it was a very interesting tour. We were able to go out onto the balcony where the Beatles waved to the crowds when they visited Melbourne. The view is fantastic. We also visited the rooms where they hold the council meetings, the wood carvings, the glass stained windows and lovely old seats are impressive. We were also able to see the grand hall which houses the grand organ. That was very interesting as we had to climb stairs over several levels to see all the different size pipes at the back of the massive organ. On the day we visited the organ was being tuned and we were treated to a a couple of tunes. We were also able to see the many gifts from other countries such as Japan that have been presented to the Mayor. Well worth a look.

Went to the busy town hall to buy tickets for the comedy festival- box office is around the side of the building. Then went to 3 shows in different rooms, from the smallest to the biggest. All were great- staff were fantastic. Building looks great lit up at night- good photo op.
