We stayed at Oaks on Collins in an Executive Suite in Rm 707 for one night as Oaks on Market where we usually stay, was booked out.
The location was excellent and we were able to walk easily to the major shops, restaurants and cafes and to the tram/train station.
The room was clean and tidy. My major concern as noted by others, was the ensuite was very small and the walls were made of frosted glass which isn't soundproof so isn't very private. I agree with a previous persons comment, that the bed is positioned too close to the glass (which compounded the privacy issue) but the bed position seemed to be defined by a bedside curtain (which reminded me of the ones used in hospitals) and which I questioned the value of and wondered if it would be better being removed.
I am wondering if a rethink needs to occur as to the design of the room space, and perhaps with the removal of some furniture so that the bed can be moved further from the bathroom and also in better view of the TV. Just some thoughts anyway.
All staff were polite and helpful.

When booking out room my friend and I were very excited to be staying in the "executive studio" which the reception assured us we were staying in, however we were out in a small room that was nothing like he images depicting what our room would be. Secondly the self contained kitchen had no cooking appliances, I.e. no pots, pans or baking trays and we had one dessert spoon in our drawer. Third, the bathroom was WAY to close to the bed, if the sheet of glass had not been there the toilet would have been less than a meter from my head. This would not be ideal for a romantic getaway as there are some things that you may want to keep private. Also, the tv was very small with terrible picture quality mounted in an awkward position.
So all in all it was not a bad hotel just absolutely nothing like what we expected or were excited about, I would not be recommending it to friends.
An upside was the staff were friendly, they provide luggage storage and the cocktail bar downstairs, although we're poorly stocked had a bartender who could make great cocktails and a fantastic martini :)

We stayed for one night and it's a great location to access all you need in the City. The rooms were clean and well appointed and the bed comfortable making sure a good nights sleep was had! It was only a flying visit so can't really comment too much because it was really just a place to lay our heads. But the fact that it is in a good location made it easy to access all we needed on foot!

My partner and I stayed here on the weekend (1st & 2nd Feb 2013). It was ok, just not great. Would be perfect for someone staying on their own.

PROS: Check in was simple, room was very quiet, Location fantastic (right next door to large newsagency, pharmacy and 24hr McDonalds and tram stop just a few steps away).

CONS: Miniscule 'frosted glass' bathroom with no shelving and few amenities (no hairdryer, shower cap, etc) - no good for girls with makeup or wanting a little privacy! Our room on the 16th floor was really dark all the time even with all the lights on (only one bedside lamp) - we specifically requested a 'room with a window' via the website check-in, but i don't think they read the comments section or they got a good giggle out of giving us a 'room with a window' which looked into the hallway!!! Conceirge was NEVER there our entire stay, so we went to reception with questions. Tea/coffee/sugar was at a BARE minimum. I also think the $150 bond was over the top!!

I'd stay again if the bathroom was different in other rooms - it was a major turnoff! And very dark and dingy room - felt like I was in a cave.

Dear guest

Thank you for providing feedback on your stay at Oaks on Collins.

It is extremely disappointing that you did not stay in the room you had requested and this will be addressed with our reservations team when allocating rooms.

We have two themes in the rooms a darker parisian theme and a lighter new york style and usually our staff at reception would have been happy to assist with moving you to a room of your satisfaction and giving you additional amenities as well. Our shelving is located behind the mirror which stores a hair dryer and additional amenities and it is unfortunate that this was not communicated to you.

On your next stay please ask for the New York style studio executive with the larger bathroom and i am certain that this would satisfy your requirements.

I booked 4 of us in for a single night in a 2-bed cosmo (1 couple, 2 male friends). Walking into our room on the 18th (top) floor we discovered the bedroom "wall" was made entirely of glass and the other bed, just the other side of the kitchen, had just a curtain to pull over to separate it from the lounge room. When I called reception to request another room, I was told there were no 2-bedroom units in the complex so nothing could be done. It made for interesting changing arrangements between us and our friends!

The beds however, were comfortable but the apartments - while they look kind of funky - really are not well-thought out. The bathroom is tiny with nowhere to put your toiletries or even toothbrush near the sink. It sits in between the two bed areas and you get no privacy whatsoever if you need to use the toilet in the middle of the night! There is a recess with a mirrored back in glass-fronted "bedroom" but it is in the darkest corner with no light above so really nowhere for a female to do her makeup if you are going for a night out.

I didn't use other facilities in the hotel but my friends used the gym, pool and sauna and had no complaints there. All in all it's in a good location and an OK place to stay for singles or 1 couple but personally, with or without our two friends, I would not stay again as we've had FAR better value and a much nicer room in other centrally-located hotels (eg Citigate). We booked online and paid $290 with no breakfast included.

Room Tip: Don't go for a 2 bed cosmo unless you are REALLY good friends!
