My husband and I chose to stay at the Alto Hotel based on many great reviews on TripAdvisor and the overall value for our money. We were so impressed with Alto from the moment we arrived. The front staff was very friendly and even helped us book our Great Ocean Road tour. Although our studio room was a bit small, it was impeccable. The room was sparkling clean, the bed was comfortable, and the bathroom was small but had nice upgrades. It had all the amenities we needed. I must say though, the hidden gem of this hotel, and one of the reasons we love it so much, is the relaxation room which is towards the back of the hotel after you walk through the restaurant. It has 2 large leather massage chairs that are remote controlled. The room is calmly decorated with a flat screen TV that includes interesting documentaries to watch as you relax. This was a unique touch that this hotel had that none of the 11 other hotels we stayed at could match.
We love this hotel and would DEFINITELY recommend it to anyone in the future. If we ever return to Melbourne, we'll be staying there.

Enjoyed our stay at Alto Hotel, except for one thing. When I enquired about the room stating clearly that I wanted one with twin bed configuration i.e. 2 single beds, they suggested a Studio Room. So we were most surprised when we checked into our room to find a queen bed with a sofa next to it, which we later discovered was an unfolded sofa bed. Otherwise, we could not fault the hotel – great location, love being able to sit in the lounge for a hot drink and read, friendly staff.

Just returned from a 8 night stay in the 3-bedroom apartment with husband and two teenagers. Well the Alto met every requirement that we wanted. The staff were the best, always very friendly and helpful, the apartment was faultless, well laid out with tasteful modern decor, well equipped and very clean and tidy. Comfy beds and pillows. Free drinks machine a nice touch for hot chocolates/coffees on your return each day.The location was excellent, just a 2min walk from Spencer St Station where Skybus drops you off from the airport, tram stops just literally outside the front of the hotel, easy walking to Coles Supermarket in Spencer St and to lots of other places in the CBD or outskirts (Queen Vic Markets,Southbank). Finding a place to eat was never far, be it a short walk or a tram ride away. We would definitely stay again at the Alto and highly recommend this to travellers.

i love the eco-friendly theme of this hotel being 100% wind powered! how about that! the rooms are spacious for what they are, and for the very reasonable price, you don't expect much more. The staff are extremely friendly and are always able to offer advice on shopping and travelling tips. Melbourne also has a new bike hire system in place in the city, and the hotel is conveniently located near a station..and they also provide helmets! the hotel is also extremely close to the drop off point of the airport express bus which was very nice...all in all fantastic

We stayed at the Alto Hotel for 3 nights. This hotel is excellent, the service couldn't have been better, Lauren at the front desk was always helpful. The breakfast was great and on the first night we ate in the restaurant, the food and service was also good. A great part of Melbourne close enough to everything but also in a quiet section of town, nice confortable rooms and no noise. We will return, thanks so much guys!

We were travelling with four other families. The Alto's location was brillant for location. Cafes, restaurants, train station, shopping and malls, trams just metres away. Yet it was surprisingly quiet. We absolutely loved the free cafe coffees in the lounge, and the massage chairs available. Our two bedroom apartment was spacious, but we didn't spend much time there. We were able to walk everywhere - casino, eureka tower, markets, shopping, theatre. Some of our party used the gym and thought it was awesome.

Stayed two nights. Was greeted with good cheer at check in, my luggage was stored and when I came back it was already in my room. The small studio room on the second floor had everything I needed although there is no view as others have noted. Love having double glazed windows that also allow you to open a window. Was worried the first night about noisy voices coming from the next room through the (locked) adjoining door but thankfully I heard them once and that was it. Check out was as friendly as check in. Will be back to try a one-bedroom.
