At only around 100 metres from the southern cross station/skybus drop off, it is very convienent. Clean, quiet and modern interior. Cozy rooms with tea/coffee and sky tv (also free wireless throughout). I did not eat there as there as many good places around, but the breakfast offerings seemed a really good deal. If your a single or acouple who want to get out and play and have a great place that is clean, quiet and welcoming to return to sleep, this is your place. If your a family who wants to spend more time in the hotel room, there might be better options

This hotel is amazing value.everything is thought of!
Hand lotion dispenser.shampoo and conditioner and soap dispensers in the shower
Lovely decor spotless!
The beds are really comfortable with feather and down toppers. Big tv modern kitchenette
It's very quite due to double glazing
Great location
Staff very welcoming and helpful
The breakfasts are great with a large menu.
The studio is not huge but it's luxury in an adequate space
Oh and the relaxation chairs are just what the doctor ordered at the end of a long days sightseeing
We would stay there again and recommend it.

Everything I needed for a 2 day business trip: close to the business district, short walk from the railway station and airport shuttle bus stop, comfortable quiet room and friendly, fast, efficient service. Good wifi with no complex setup required or limit on devices connected.

The green credentials are credible and in evidence.

Room for improvement: free coffee in lounge was pretty horrid - a Nespresso or similar capsule machine would do better.

But there's a Hudsons on the corner if you want a better cheap coffee. Across the road is the new School Of Life cafe with great ambience and all the Alain de Botton books you can eat ;-)

Also across the road is The Hub, a great coworking space.

We enjoyed our stay at the Alto. It is very close to Southern Cross Station so getting to and from Skybus was a breeze. It's centrally located so our walk to Etihad Stadium for the footy was only a couple of minutes and at the same time the walk to the shops down on Bourke Street wasn't that long. Also the kitchenette was very handy in making some quick breakfast and dinner meals.

If we ever came to Melbourne again I would definitely stay here.

We stayed in one bedroom unit for a couple of nights on our last stop over on way home from Asia.
This was our 7th property we stayed in last 3 weeks. Great city centre location and professional service from all the staff. The 1BR unit is ideal for family and quite spacious for an inner city hotel with full kitchen and dishwasher.
We would definitely choose this hotel again when we next visit Melbourne.

I just arrived back from 4 nights at the Alto on Bourke and there was nothing I could fault about my stay. There were 4 of us ladies celebrating a 50th birthday and we all enjoyed our stay. The Alto was close to everything. Spencer Street Station was 200m or so down the road and trams just outside the door. The kitchenette was fully equipped with everything we needed and the staff at the Hotel were excellent and full of knowledge. All 4 of us decided we would definitely stay there again next time we come to Melbourne.

Room Tip: We had room 404 and the only noise we heard were a few tram bells which was a nice reminder that we...

We stayed at the Alto at the very end of December 2013, prior to spending some time in Sydney. We wanted somewhere that was close to major points of interest, good for public transport connections and good value, and we were certainly not disappointed.

Alto is basically in a more business focused area of Melbourne, and right next to a tram stop on one of the main lines through the city, and also only 200m away from where the airport bus drops off. Our room was great, and basically a mini studio apartment, perfect as we had a 5 month old baby with us. The staff had provided a lovely crib with bedding for the little one, and this certainly made things easier. The room was spacious and the bathroom was modern and clean.

Breakfast was included in the rate, so we ate downstairs each morning. The choices were varied and plentiful, and always tasty. The free, great quality, tea and coffee throughout the day was also a big bonus.

We didn't eat any meals at the hotel purely because there were so many choices within a 10-15 minute walk. The friendly staff were always happy to help with transport solutions and eating recommendations.

All in all, a great place to stay in downtown Melbourne, and would certainly recommend.
