My husband and I stayed for a holiday/business 3 nights had a fabulous stay! Beautiful room, friendly staff, breakfast was terrific lots of choice and fresh. Location was great near the station and trams. Will be back again. We stayed because of trip advisor's comments and were not disappointed. Reception staff very friendly and helpful, I got in earlier than my husband and the room was ready for me which was a nice surprise. Very comfortable bed too.

Thank you

A lovely small hotel that was so handy to everything. The tram stopped almost on the door and the train station was also less than 100 metres away. The room was clean, quiet and very comfortable. We could hear the occasional tram going past but that was all the noise that we could hear. There is a restaurant on site (we didn't eat there) and a number of other eating places within a few blocks. After a not so great meal from the Indian around the corner from the hotel we ventured further at night, catching the tram into town

We have stayed at this hotel many times and each time I book, they remember us; and our preferences. We recommend the Alto to anyone going to Melbourne, it is so convenient, comfortable, great location close to trams and trains, not too far from the busy mall, but far enough away to be nice and quiet. There is a coin operated laundry in the hotel, which is such a bonus. The breakfasts are delicious and generous and they set you up for a day exploring, shopping or whatever you are doing. We find that no matter what time you come downstairs for breakfast there always seems to be a table just waiting for us. Hot breakfast cooked to order and delivered in super quick time - perfect!

Although you might be tricked into thinking that this lovely little boutique hotel is situated at the wrong end of the CBD, you would be wrong. The building appears to have started life as offices for the union movement, but it has been tastefully renovated to provide nice rooms in a quieter part of the city. What it lacks in facilities (there is no formal dining area, just a self-service cafeteria area) the staff make up with their enthusiasm to make recommendations, and to hear how you liked wherever you have gone. There are, in fact, several, reasonably priced eateries within steps of the hotel, reflecting its location just a bit out of the more luxurious end of the CBD - which is still within very easy striking distance, as is the rejuvenated waterfront. Melbourne's propensity for situating exciting shopping and restaurants down alleyways makes venturing down the "in-between streets feel safe, which hopefully it is! A great spot, at a good price, with enthusiastic staff; what more could you ask.

We regularly use this facility whenever in Melbourne. On this occasion it was just an overnight stop to catch an early flight to Queensland. The location close to Southern Cross station and the Skybus terminal make this an excellent place to stay. Front of house staff are always friendly, rooms, although sometimes a little cramped, are always clean and well presented. The small box of chocolates in the room, on arrival, is an added bonus.

Spent a few nights here in July and was more than happy with the service and accomodation. Rooms are small but perfectly comfortable. Reception staff are more than helpful and try their best to solve any issues you may have. The only issue we had was with the restaurant. It was far too busy to cope at breakfast time and we had to wait for space to dine. Due to the lack of space in the restaurant we tried ordering room service. However, after a long wait we called down for our food and it was brought up rather cold and tired looking. I complained to the desk on departure and they did refund the meal. It is clear the kitchen is too small to cope with the demands of the guests, which soured what was an otherwise excellent stay. Would still recommend, but try elsewhere for dinner.

Glad to read that you found our rooms are comfortable.

Alto is a small boutique hotel that does have a small restaurant. We are pleased that at times our restaurant is popular. As with larger hotels the restaurant is not designed to be able to accommodate the majority of guests in the hotel at the one time. Should many guests decide to dine at a similar time there may be a slight delay in being seated. We will always do our best to seat and serve as soon as possible.
