Wow we love this small hotel in CBD. It's quiet and detail-oriented. I can say many good point of the hotel:

1) The room and bathroom are very clean. With a comfortable color scheme. The color of bed sheet looks better than in the photo.

2) We booked B&B package. The breakfast has a high standard of freshness and they cook the entree for you when you order! taste great!

3) We arrive a bit early than the check in time so the staffs provide the use of massage room. Perfect!

4) Have an iPhone docking station in the room!

5) Complimentary espresso coffee machine. complimentary daily cookies/milk. Complimentary use of massage room...omg

6) Really great service. The staff are welcomed and with a good knowledge of the surrounding.

Love it! I could rate it 6 or 7 star! Definitely stay again!

I stayed at the Alto Hotel on Bourke during a recent trip to Melbourne. i was attracted to the hotel because of its exemplary green rating and that the facility is powered totally on renewable energy.

I also drive an electric car, and the Alto is the only Hotel that offers parking and charging for electric vehicles and this is an important thing for me.

From the staff's attention to detail and welcoming assistance, to the rooms and the perfect surroundings, the Alto Hotel is my only stop when in Melbourne. Experience it for yourself, you will be glad you did.

There was no hot water in my bathroom. When I told reception about this at 08:00 in the morning, they said they did not have any maintenance staff on to look at it and it would be at least 2 hours before the maintenance guy would be in. Not very helpful to me when the checkout time was 10:00. They then kindly suggested that it would be OK if I had a shave in the public toilets in the lobby area.

This hotel generally looks worn out and shabby. I am not sure what justifies it being classed as a 'boutique' hotel, maybe it is just that it is small and old. It is certainly not related to the service!

The breakfast was also poor. They try and paint a picture of a green hotel with a note on the menu stating that they source fresh local produce wherever possible. The tinned apricots on offer on the breakfast buffet jarred a bit with this.

Overall you would not have to try very hard to find a much better place for around the same cost.

The location is OK if you are going to be using Southern Cross station, but for most other things you would be better off closer to Swanston Street.

Yes we did have an unexpected failure with hotel water in 1 room. Which we sincerely apologise for. Unfortunately we do not have plumbers on duty 24 hours hence there was a delay to have a service person attend. As the hotel was fully occupied we did not have a spare room to offer at that time of the morning, hence our offer to use the lobby bathroom. A significant discount was applied as an apology for this unforeseeable and regretful equipment fault.

In keeping with our sustainability initiatives we use local produce where practical, including fresh and preserved fruits as well as free range eggs and certified organic & Fairtrade coffee.

The hotel opened in 2006 after the heritage listed building was redeveloped from office use to an apartment hotel. The hotel is inspected annually (last December 2010) and rated as 4 stars by AAA Tourism who manage the official hotel star rating system in Australia.
Our location is ideal for access to Docklands, Southbank. Plus Southern Cross station for trains, express airport shuttle and trams. There are 100+ shops within the station complex plus many restaurants within 5 minute walk including Movida Aqui and Vue de Monde. Swanston Street is a much busier section of the city and is approx 10 minutes walk from the hotel or a short tram ride from just outside our door.

It was a blessing to have found this gem of a place which met all our needs especially with teens.

We stayed in a 2 bedroom apt. It was very clean, spacious enough with 2 proper bedrooms for families and excellent service from all staff. The ipod dock and free wifi was a boon to my teens too. Fresh towels, daily cleaning and all toiletries provided with a kitchenette. The coin operated washer and dryer saved was very useful too.

2 mins to eateries and 7-11 and southern cross station. Trams at doorstep. 7-10 mins walking distance to The Crown, Major Shopping Districts, Habourtown-(for excellent shopping), Convention Centre and many more.

I found that location is important as taxis are generally expensive and trams can be too if you are travelling as a family. The free city circle tram round the corner got us around most places for free saving us a bundle.

Totally reccommend this place.

As this hotel was so high in the rankings I was expecting a liitle more.
Whilst all staff were friendly, I felt the room actually let the hotel down as the decor was very stark, it was trying to be modern but didn't quite work. We booked a Studio apartment which was basically a small double room with a small kitchenette, and a small, very plain bathroom. Everything about the room was very plain. The bed was not comfortable as it did not have a duvet but a sheet and a wool blanket which was old and musty.
We did get a good deal on the hotel with a wi-fi and breakfast, so we would been annoyed if we had paid the full rate.
The location was good, near the end of Bourke street with a tram stop outside and a 2 minute walk to the station where you can get the airport bus.

Half a block up from Southern Cross station & the Sky Bus terminal from the airport, this well appointed boutique hotel is on the Bourke street tram line which also runs over to South Bank & down to St. Kilda. Docklands is within walking distance too.

It's also a short walk to Collins St.

Friendly, helpful staff & good facilities - recommend Queen studio or one bedroom appt.

I booked this hotel based on recommendations and also because they advertise that they have a massages available for guests. Well, they have massage chairs which was a disappointment.
Beside that the hotel is in good location, 3 min walking distance form the train station which is connected with the airport. The interior of the hotel is new and the design is nice. But normal room is very very small. I stayed there only for 2 nights, and it was ok. For a longer time it is really too small.
Staff members were friendly and helpful, which was really nice to see. If you have your own laptop internet is free of charge.
