“4 stars....tell 'em they're dreaming!”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 10, 2013

How can this hotel possibly be rated 4 stars? We booked at short notice for 3 nights based on the hotels location and 4 star rating. Location frankly was the only saving grace for this hotel!
To say the hotel is run down is an understatement.....upon our arrival we were greeted and handled with great efficiency by front of house staff but from there on our experience was terrible.
Once given our room access card for our room on the 3rd floor we entered only to find the airconditioner did not work so asked for a room that did.
Finally moved to our new room on the 5th floor overlooking Latrobe St. When I say overlooking it was more like standing in the middle of La Trobe St as the traffic noise overnight was appalling and never relented from tram, truck and car traffic noise to emergency service vehicle sirens.
The room was tidy but definitely not spotless as a 4 star hotel should be. Dirty tissues left on the floor under desk etc.Gross!
The safe was also not operable and looked like it had been for some time. Robe hooks pulling out of walls in bathroom, dated and worn sofa and dining furniture and patched up walls everywhere with no top coat of paint showed what a hard and long life this poor hotel has had.
If you are at all considering this hotel my suggestion is to look again as there are many better hotels in Melbourne that truly are 4 star rated!

Room Tip: Not recommended at all!

I don't understand how this could possibly be scored as 4-star. Very tired furnishings - faded, worn upholstery, badly scratched tables, very hard mattress. Washing machine out of order, very unpleasant smell emanating from the hot water system cupboard that indicates something is badly wrong. Bathroom had probably been cleaned but because it was old it was hard to tell what was ingrained dirt and what wasn't. If you want air you need to be able to tolerate traffic and tram noise all night. Windows are not double glazed so even when shut there is still street noise. Didn't stop us from sleeping but for some it might be a problem. Only good thing was the location close to Southern Cross station and SkyBus. We will not be staying here again.

Southern Cross station - 5 minute walk. Tram right outside the door. Coles store across the road. Clean, comfortable room, away from noisy hustle and bustle of city centre. Close to Docklands and Etihad Stadium. Would definitely stay here again.

my daughter and I stayed here for 4 nights. Very disappointing for 4 star accommodation. we paid less at other hotels and had much nicer rooms. I told the guy at reception that I couldn't find a socket to plug in my bedside lamp, he advised me to pull out the bed and I would probably find one. I pulled out the bed and the heavy headboard fell on me, It was supposed to be fixed to the wall. I located the socket where I was very concerned that the whole thing was off the wall with wires everywhere, extremely dangerous. When I spoke to the manageress/housekeeper about this she went straight on the defence, didn't enquire whether I was hurt and had no concern over the matter. Wouldn't reccomend to anyone if you value your health.

Filthy and smelly room, rude staff, loud traffic, kitchen didn't have oven, freezer didn't freeze, fridge wasn't cold. Being a weekend with max temp of 17 they had the heating on so high it made us feel sick, the aircon in the room didn't work, it to hot to sleep! Along with poor blinds which blocked no light out.
We had a 3 extra friends in room (not to sleep) and were told it was against policy they were to leave or police would be called. Got charged $10 for not handing back a room key. I have worked and stayed in many hotels and this was by far the worst, would of been better off in a backpackers hostel.

We only stayed two nights and found it easy to get every where as there is tram stop just outside which link you with all the city sights and transport services. Coles across the road for any shopping ,a pub around the corner only 2 blocks away and a coffee shop next door.We stay at the Pullman hotel due to business which charges over 200 dollars a night and ok big big bed and some foxtel tv station but that was all and yes bigger bathroom . But the Harbour view apartment was so much better for money value. The rooms where clean comfortable got to remember you are only in the rooms at night to sleep if you on holiday. Our view i must say was disappointing there wasn,t any , we looked at a brick wall , would of been nice to have some kind of view. May be if we where staying longer would ask to been moved.I be back again.

Room Tip: ask for a room at he front

We checked in for several days and needed a clean quiet spacious apartment for 3 adults.
The room we were given was overlooking a parking lot and so we asked for a better room as it was also right opposite the lift, hardly going to be quiet with guests and tenants coming and going.
The room we were given turned out to be dirty, all skirting boards filthy, entire room dusty, and the airconditioner smelled of cigarette smoke when on, which meant we had to open sliding door and listen to truck traffic, trams, and pedestrian warning signal at corner lights all night long.
Just not a nice place at all,,, I would not stay again if they paid me.

Room Tip: go to another hotel
