“Thank you Punthill!!”
Reviewed April 16, 2013

My partner and I enjoyed a short stay at Punthill Little Bourke during the comedy festival and loved it. It is located right in the heart of china town, which meant we were a short walk from all the theaters and other attractions we wanted to see.

It also seemed to be quieter at night than other hotels we had previously stayed at in the CBD which meant we got a great sleep each night, and the very comfortable bed helps as well! Our room (we booked a 1 bedroom with spa) was large and provided everything that we needed and more! It had a good size fridge, cooking facilities, Dvd player, even a washing machine and dryer!! Our room was serviced daily and the hotel had a high standard of cleanliness.

Also we had some trouble with our flight arrangements, we were kindly told that there is a computer for guests near reception where we were able to sort out our flights, print out confirmations and boarding passes, at no charge to us! So thank you to you and your friendly team for making this a very enjoyable stay. We will return and highly recommended to anyone travelling to Melbourne CBD.

Room Tip: We booked directly through the punthill website as they offered great rates.

Just spent 6 nights in an apartment on the 6th floor. We were on the corner facing Little Bourke and a lane way which was very noisy late at night and early morning with restaurants putting out rubbish and then the trucks collecting. Reasonably priced and apartment was clean and comfortable especially the bed.
Very close to restaurants and only a stone throw into CBD. Good public transport close buy. Staff friendly and obliging.
Would stay again.

Room Tip: Perhaps ask to be on east side with balcony.

We stayed in a studio apartment on the 6th floor. It was relatively spacious and quiet.

Wifi cost $3 an hour or $18 a day, although there is a computer near the reception with free internet for guests.

The hotel is well located close to public transport, shops and restaurants/cafes.

Good value for Melbourne CBD.

We booked this hotel after reading the great reviews about it on Trip Advisor and we weren't disappointed. On arriving, we were welcomed by the friendly "kiwi staff" on reception (made us feel we were still at home) who accommodated us with an early check in. The rooms were really well set out, modern and clean. The cooking facilities allowed us to cook our poached eggs on toast for breakfast, and there is a good store to buy your groceries just around the corner.

Only area for improvement would be as others have stated, a larger shower screen so that when you had a shower you didn't drown the bathroom floor, and it would have been good to have a tea towel provided to dry the dishes.

The biggest plus though, is the location - being right in Chinatown and so close to the rest of the city shops. The city free tram and tourist bus stops are really close too.

Would definitely stay here again and probably will.

We stayed in a one bedroom spa apartment for 6 nights - however it was more of a studio with a divider between the bed area and lounge. Having said this it was very reasonably priced and we were quite comfortable there for the week.

Don't be fooled by the use of a wide angle lens in many of the photographs on the website nor the images that depict a standard sized kitchen with a large two door fridge freezer - the actual kitchen was tiny with less than a metre square of bench space and a little bar fridge that we could hardly fit all our groceries in and the miniature sink made trying to wash up very interesting - alright if you plan to eat out but we had initially intended to cook all our meals in the apartment and booked this hotel with that in mind and based on the kitchen size depicted in the photos specific to this room...

The multitude of air conditioning units and exhaust systems that the balcony overlooked made the room so noisy it was impossible to have the windows open and carry a conversation at the same time this also made it quite difficult to get to sleep on an evening - the view (of corregated iron rooftops) left a lot to be desired and combined with the extreme noise the balcony wasn't very pleasurable, thank god we weren't in one of the rooms below as they only had a view of a brick wall.

We used the exercise room and pool everyday - they were both great and we enjoyed using these and having them just downstairs. However the exercise room was filthy and wasn't cleaned once the whole time we were there.

Apart from all this the hotel was lovely, very well appointed and centrally located in vibrant Chinatown - many restaurants / cafes to choose from and plenty of shopping nearby as well as access to public transport. Parking was convenient and only a short walk down the road - however to call it "on site" is a bit of a stretch of the imagination.

Hotel staff were very welcoming, helpful and friendly. We really appreciated being able to check in early on the day of our arrival and it was great to have free access to Internet and printing facilities downstairs. Bed was very comfortable and the spa bath was fantastic! Great for soaking muscles after walking around the city all day!

Room Tip: Insist on a room on the south side of the building or on a higher floor to avoid noise.

Dear Chris G,
Thank you for your review of Punthill Little Bourke. Whilst not altogether complimentary, we do appreciate all comments so that we can continually improve our products and services.
Punthill Little Bourke is situated in the heart of the city which most guests enjoy, but unfortunately one is also surrounded by buildings, city noise etc and there are no views to speak of unless one is in a skyscraper.
We do have 'on site parking' however when fully booked, we do direct guests to an alternative, independent car park. We do clearly state on our website that on site parking is limited.
We are so pleased that it seems that overall you enjoyed your stay, and we do hope to welcome you back to Punthill in the future.
Kind regards,

We stayed in a 1 Bedroom Spa Apartment for one night during the week.. It was great value, only $168.00 for 2 adults/1 child.. And in the CBD of Melbourne!!
We stayed here as we were going to the Flower Drum Restaurant.. Fantastic location.. Not even a minutes walk!!
We were lucky to be given parking in the secure basement parking, which was great, just straight in the lift and up to our room! Very handy with a small child!
The room was reasonably clean & tidy.. Basic, but that's all that is needed for a short stay! It was also very quiet, no street noise & we were only on the 1st level!
Facilities are great, small pool & gym area.. And also a breakfast bar..
We would definetely stay here again if looking for somewhere in the CBD, especially if it was at the great rate we paid this time!!

My husband and 2year old son and I stayed in Punthill Little Bourke over Easter holiday.

Holiday with kids these days, I need somewhere super convenient, kitchen for emergency snack, bath cos my son is scare of shower ( also I prefer to have bath) and spacious room for him to play a bit.
We have been staying in different hotels in Melbourne but here in Little Bourke st is super convenient. Close to Parliament station, Tram stop, Woolworth, cafes and great Chinese restaurant. It's hard to go out and eat 3meals for 4days with kids so we grabbed basic staff from Woolies or Take away from Chinese and Italian restaurant which was just great! Also close to Melbourne museum is lucky for us, they have a great playground behind the museum so my son had a great time there. The washing machine with 2 packet of washing powder was great help!

Only down side was cleaning issue.
We checked in late afternoon on saturday and I found so many long hairs in the bathroom and a cotton bud under the table and black lamp has dust on them. We paid over $200 for first night and this??? I didn't feel the carpet was clean... I complained to the receptionist and he offered a different room but my son was ready to go to sleep that time and I didn't have any energy left to move our all our stuff to other room. Next day I found out no cleaning service cos of Easter and I didn't realize it by late afternoon. Also the fan in the kitchen wasn't working and freezer dripped the water so fridge was very wet.
But just to let you know last day of our stay, I found finally they cleaned our room properly.

If we didn't have this issues, we liked our stay. My husband and son didn't really care about the cleanliness of room but to me, it is important.

Dear FiFiYoung,
We are so pleased that you enjoyed the location of Punthill Little Bourke; however, disappointed that cleaning standards were not as they should have been.
Whilst we did not as a matter of routine service all apartments on 2 days of the Easter weekend, we did have notification in the lifts and on the front desk that service was 'on request' and we would have been more than happy to provide additional cleaning.
We take these issues extremely seriously and management will check on housekeeping more diligently until they are satisfied that cleaning is really perfect.
We hope to welcome you back to Punthill again in the future.
Kind regards,
