Happened upon this little place after passing by a few in Chinatown. Feeling like a light lunch we ordered a plate of pan fried pork dumplings & the Shredded Pork in sweet bean sauce with pancakes. Absolutely loved both items and cannot wait to return to try more.

I ventured in lured by the menu and the buzz we could see going on inside the restarurant. We were promptly seated by lovely staff (who spoke and understood English very well - earlier reviewer must have been having a bad day - note that we ate in the restaurant twice and had take out once over the 6 days we stayed in Melbourne).

They have an exciting menu with traditional favourites and exciting modern options. We ate dumplings, shallot pancake, Mongolian beef and a couple other dishes that were all amazing. Warning - the dumplings in spicy sauce are HOT!

We can't wait to visit Melbourne again next year with our kids - Zhen Hong will be the first restaurant we visit.

As a final night of a business trip my group of four guys treated our selves to a banquet style meal at this place. The bright cheery interior and enticing pictures in the windows brought us in. Restaurant was about half full, with a mixture of Chinese and foreign devil customers. Things did not start well. The waiters did not seem to understand English well enough to give advice or even describe the dishes. We had great trouble just asking for a jug of water. Finally a more accomplished linguist made it to our table and we proceeded to order many dishes. Although her English was better she seemed a bit clueless on what mixture of dishes would be best. We just fired a shot gun through the glossy picture filled menu and ordered almost randomly. The dishes started to arrive. They did not look like the pictures in the menu. What's this one? We asked the waiter. She did not know. This went on for many dishes. We finally gave up asking and just started to eat. Hmmm. Apart from the fish in spicy soup and the Peking duck pancakes, which were very tasty, the dishes were undistinguished. Flavour was hard to find. Presentation lacking. Dumplings were mushy and tasteless. Fish cakes rubbery and too chewy. At the end of the night most of the dishes were left half touched. Not impressive. There must be better places to indulge your self. Pay a bit more and get a better meal some where else.

Great little Chinese restaurant located at 191 Russell Street. The restaurant was very clean and bright, so unlike the majority of other restaurants located in the Chinatown area of Melbourne. The staff was friendly and efficient. The food was very good and more than we could eat. The prices were inexpensive compared to many of the other restaurants we visited during out stay. Overall, a great place with delicious food at a reasonable price. We would definitely eat here again if we make it back to Melbourne.

Was so surprised to find this restaurant that ticked all the boxes for us. Very authentic right down to the solemnly faced mother figure sitting in the corner reading her paper and keeping an eye on all things.
The food was value for money and has cemented a regular spot for us now.
