We had read about this Restaurant in the Cuisine Magazine back in New Zealand and had put it on our to-do list when next in Melbourne. And we were not disappointed. It is a cosy but airy place and we did get to be seated in a front window. Introduced to a new (to us) aperitif of Campari and Blood Orange juice which just set the palate up for a fine lunch. Melbourne is blessed with many fine dining establishments, but we do recommend this as a good place to try. Food was excellent, staff were friendly and helpful and the price was not outrageous.

We dined here last Saturday evening....I had read a review in Gourmet Traveller some time ago. We were not disappointed....small menu with delicious options served by wonderful bright and bubbly staff. Shared antipasto platter was the perfect start to a truely memorable evening.

I thought nouvelle cuisine went out in the 90s. I also thought that Italian cooking was hearty and wholesome. How wrong I was - at least with a visit to Rosa's kitchen. With prices in a five-star bracket and a very limited menu, the food was miserly. Some of my group had penne with lamb shank and pea. Note that all of the chalkboard menus stated a singular pea, and for two of my group that is exactly all they could find in their dish! They expected a tasty lamb shank with their pasta but instead had shredded shank meat that would fit in a tablespoon. Two of us had spaghetti with calamari and squid ink. It was tasty but as a main course it would have been classified as an entrée at many other good Italian restaurants in Melbourne. I counted seven miserly thin strips of calamari when we were both expecting traditional Italian calamari tubes. However, the spaghetti was cooked al dente to perfection.
If you want to limit your calories, Rosa's will do it for you, but if you want wholesome Italian food, walk ten minutes down the road to Lygon Street.

This Italian restaurant in Punch Lane delivers divine food in a cosy atmosphere. The small menu is written on chalkboards around the walls. I ordered meatballs and green beans which was fantastic and filling. Husband and daughter had pasta dishes, one vegetarian which was divine and the other a lamb shank ragout with penne. The wine waiter knew his stuff as did the waitresses who were up for a laugh. Such a lovely atmosphere, as diners happily tucked into their beautiful food. We shared dessert; a chocolate tart and a lemon cake. These too were divine. Can thoroughly recommend Rosa's Kitchen.

Shared a wonderful and very tasty dinner with friends at Rosa's Kitchen. The combination of flavors and textures in the mozeralla salad were sensational and the meatballs divine! We walked out very satisfied and also enjoyed the wine. A little secret in Melbourne, in a little alleyway off little Bourke st.
