Paco's Taco's is I believe part of Frank Camora's of Movida fames empire. It is next to Movida Aqui and is more of a Cantina Taco bar like you find in the USA and Mexico. It is essentially out door with some cover. It is relaxed, order at the bar, have beer (or beverage of your choice) a couple of taco's, a chat with friends or work colleagues and move on home or out for the night.
We originally tried this place on a different trip to Melbourne on a Friday night in March and it was jammed packed so we couldn't get in. This trip we went for lunch and it was more subdued and easy to get a table.
There were 6 different taco fillings to choose from, beef, chicken, prawn, fish, chorizo and bean. They are served in soft tortilla's very authentically. We tried the beef, the chicken and the prawn. All were excellent and at $6 each I feel great value. We also had the corn cobs with queso and Choptle mayonnaise. These were delicious, I could eat these all day. Sweet corn on the cob with smokey chipotle, simple, simply delicious.
We also tried the chiccarones. It says crispy pig crackling with salsa verde and chipotle sauce. The crackling was more like a puff than a crackle. Nothing wrong with it just different to what was expected. The salsa verde and the chipotle sauces were sublime. Everything good about mexican food right here in these two sauces. They should be served as dipping sauces for the equally delicious corn chips. The corn chips came with the nacho's and my daughter who is a self declared nacho expert promptly declared these the best she has had in Australia. They were good, very good.
I loved this place. I loved the concept of the 'meeting place' rather than a restaurant as such. Cold beer, good friends, wonderful vibe and cracking simple delicious mexican offerings for 'bar snacks'...what more could you want?!
