We recently had an afternoon function at The Cricketers Arms Hotel in the beer garden.

The beer garden is a fabulous venue, especially if the sun is shining, if not the garden has a retractable roof and heaters, so no problem with the weather changing (as it does in Melbourne)

Food was delish and plentyful, we opted for finger food, which arrived in timely order so guests werent starving or bombarded with food, all at once. A bar tab was kept, which the barman gave us updates.
Staff were helpful and attentive, especially the function co ordinator, who called us during the week prior, to see if we needed anything for the function.

I would most certainly have another celebration at The Cricketers Arms, and recommend it to others.

Cute little pub/hotel in a small street that is quiet and suburban. The menu is extensive and choices are quite good. Staff can be a little slow to respond, not from apathy but perhaps in need of customer service training. They are friendly enough but don't seem to understand they need to be attentive.
Food was quite good and ingredients were fresh.
It isn't a 'gastro pub' by any means but it certainly fits the bill as your local and doesn't have any pretensions about it.

This could be a neighbourhood gem, but is let down by perfunctory and sullen service. I had one of the best chowders I have eaten in Oz and the mains were tasty, if presented with an emphasis on appearance rather than practicality, but the finished food was left in front of us for fifteen minutes and was not removed until we were able to eventually get the attention of one of the two waitresses serving a full dining room. The problems rest with management. Not that there was any management evident. In a word -pity.
