“Sharing menu - special”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 19, 2013

The sharing menu was a lot of fun, with many delicious surprises. It can also be customised for you, so that it includes any dishes from the menu that especially appeal. The Brussels sprouts, the duck and the crispy bread accompanying the pâté were very good.
The people at Epocha really know what hospitality is all about . And they provide it in an elegant setting.
Noisy, though. There were only five of us, and it was difficult to hear conversation across the table

“This will be in the Good Food guide next year.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 2, 2013

This restaurant will make it in Melbourne's Good Food Guide next year without a doubt. Food was delicious and the service exceptional. The menu is a little different to your standard fine dining restaurant in that it encourages sharing large plates.

We shared the gruyere pie and the tongue in cheek braise. The braise was beautifully cooked. The meat was tender and pulled apart easily. The pie was also well cooked.

The staff have a really good understanding of the menu and are happy to provide for dietary requirements. We had a gluten intolerant diner and the chef organised our dishes with gluten free ingredients.

I would be happy to recommend this restaurant to anyone.

“Best Sunday Long Lazy Lunch”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 26, 2013

A totally quaint and rustic dining room - so lovely to discover this place through a friend who had her birthday lunch here yesterday. Chef Caroline's attention to detail and superb combinations of flavours were just simply amazing.
Guy's service was fantastic and attentive.
We had the Sunday lunch - it was a roasted goat but I had my dietary pescatarian request well looked after with a lovely dish of skate. We had another friend who was gluten free and she was well catered for as well. Everyone raved about the goat and the accompanying potatoes roasted in duck fat. I must say.. the best bread in town... lovely with the caraway seed through it.
We were there from 1230pm to 4pm... and time just flew. Such amazing food and lovely service.
Thank you Caroline and Guy and the rest of the staff for such a lovely afternoon.
Definitely coming back.

“Wouldn't go back but enjoyed the experience.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 12, 2013

We came over from Perth with clients and ate here for Saturday dinner. The staff were at first very attentive and took us upstairs to the cosy bar. We had the rhubarb and vanilla cocktail which was amazing. Once we were seated... We were eventually given menus. When our waitress came she asked if we knew already how to order( we didn't) and in a rather quiet voice ( I say this only because it was so very loud in the dining room) explained the share dishes. She recommended what to get and was very knowledgeable about all the dishes. We did have to ask for a wine list and were not assisted with choosing. No wines were under $80 a bottle. As the first share plates came around, we were a bit worried that we may have to stop at a food court on the way home. Roasted chickpeas not a hit. By the mains, we were Hooked on the food. Tasty and original. We got 4 between 4 of us and it was plenty. Veal was amazing. Different sort of concept to share all the dishes... Bill was over $500 for 4. Drawback was the loud room. Difficult to hear across the table.

“Flautless Food”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 30, 2013

Went to this place for dinner last week (Saturday night). I have to start out by staying the first reaction was wow, beautiful terrace house, lovely tables, attentive service. However it was rather noisy. They had a full house, which says a lot about the place, but it was hard to hear friends at the same table talking, let alone the softley spoken waiter.

Having said that, the food which we ordered in 'taste plates' were exquisite. My favourite was the veal f*****ts, they were melt in your mouth, with bubble and squeak vegetables ... oh so nice. All our wait staff knew the menu well, how much to order and how to match food to wine. We received a couple of 'complimentary' desserts and we just simply asked them to match the wine ... perfection!

The only reason I rate the "atmosphere" as 'average' is because of the noise factor, which became more and more distracting and elevated as the night went on and drinking got heavier.

However, it was a great dining experience.
