“Great experience”

I booked this place for a group of 40 clients of ours for lunch prior to the tennis. The guys were very accommodating and looked after our group really well. The food was fantastic, in particular the lamb neck which was just outstanding. Will definitely be back.

“Willing to please ... but lacking something”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 16, 2013

Where to dine for a family of four on a mild Wednesday evening? Strolling along South Wharf at about 7.45pm we wandered past Shed 5 - devoid of customers at that time, with the manager and waitress standing inside, looking out. The limited menu selection seemed appealing to us, but not to our children (7 and 11). After enquiry to the manager and waitress, we were advised that they do have a children's menu of chicken and chips or fish and chips - that suited our daughters. We were seated outside, alongside the river.

The outside seating accompanying the round tables we were seated at was not comfortable - appeared to be more of a cheap cafe style chair - this was unfortunate. The restaurant's rectangular tables had what appeared to be more comfortable restaurant-style chairs. There were some of the rectangle tables set up outside too, but only with seating for two.

The meals were of generous proportion, well cooked and of good presentation. They were filling.

The side order of chips was overly chilli-hot - not so enjoyable.

The waitress was attentive to our needs during our meal.

During our meal another party of three arrived - also seated outside at a round table - and a single person also seated outside but at a rectangle table. As we prepared to leave near 9.00pm, the staff commenced bringing the outside rectangle tables inside, leaving the sole occupant at one of the rectangle tables, now conspicuously isolated by himself on the promenade with no other tables around him. The patron must have felt rather odd sitting there eating his meal.

Overall, not a bad establishment ... but they could have been more attentive to passing trade at a time when they were empty, and should not have moved the furniture from around one of their patrons. And why they have a small number of "inferior" tables and chairs is a mystery, esecially given the otherwise very good quality fit-out of the resaturant.

They also added a 0.8% credit card surcharge without first disclosing it.

As one of a large number of other restaurants within a short walk, our experience was not "exciting" enough to encourage a return visit - we'll try other establishments first.

“South Wharf Med Fav”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 2, 2013 via mobile

We chose Shed 5 for our last night in Melbourne. It's location on the Yarra and near our hotel made it the perfect spot for an early evening. We looked at the other restaurants on the wharf, but decided on She'd 5 due to its more unique menu. Glad we did.

The staff was attentive and polite. Service was timed well. We started with stuffed calamari and fave bean purée with pita bread. Mains were the pork shoulder and whole red snapper. Added sides of the mixed leaf salad and fries. All were so good. With a bottle of Adelaide Hills Chèvre SB, it was a perfect dinner. Sorry, but no room for dessert.

“Cocktails and food that will make your night!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 21, 2012

Me and 3 girlfriends headed to Shed 5 on a Saturday night in December and were seated outside. The night was balmy, although they did switch on the heaters for us and we had a view of the city lights of Melbourne/Crown. The promenade is not that busy with foot traffic so we felt comfortable to laugh as laoudly as we wanted. There were bar stools and 2 other tables outside although not cramped together which was fantastic!
The food is to die for and worth the price! We had a few servings of pita bread, tsaziki and a fava bean dip with a betroot terrine. All were served home style and good serving sizes. We shared the lamb neck (devine and a must try!), half roasted chicken, chips with garlic dip and a village salad. The food was authentic, fresh and so tasty! We had quite a few cockatils and the bar men started serving us jugs of Margaritas even though jugs were not on the drink menu.
Service was good. My friend has an allergy to nuts and the starters we were served all had the nuts. He apologised profusely and allowed us to keep the starters and also had new ones made up which was nice and at no additional cost. He was attentive and friendly.
A must try in Melbourne to start a night of drinking!

“South Wharf gem”

Went for a stroll to see what we could see, and stopped for some dessert and a drink. The Spiced Syrup Revani Cake is heaven for your taste buds. Will definitely return for lunch.
