“great food...”

We found this by accident as we were starving and wanted to eat quick. The food was great and the service good. We loved the kway towoe noodle and the fresh fruit juice.

“Very popular and good restaurant”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 14, 2012

The Straits combines great food and quick service with quite modest prices. This is a combination that's hard to beat. Our only problem was a miscommunication regarding the quantity of food, so it's good to be careful that staff with little English have understood.

“Great Malaysian Food!”

We had a quick lunch here. Varied menu - and MASSIVE main meals. I had an entree which was sizeable and delicious. Quick service. Basic setting.

“Malay goodness”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 8, 2012

A friend and I tried the one in city on Swanston St on a recent visit to Melbourne, just wandered past and decided to try it out. Good Malay fare, decent price. I've been looking for a good Hainanese chicken rice recently, and they made me very happy. My friend's char kwai teow was a bit spicier than anticipated, but noodles cooked well and not overdone like many places. Service was friendly and quick, but a little confused at times (our entree was mixed up with another table's order, and I received extra chili sauce when I asked for extra ginger and green onion sauce). But overall yummy visit.

“Reasonably priced Malaysian food”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 6, 2012 via mobile

Have dined at Straits of Malacca (Glen Waverley) for three times now. Great Malaysian food which are reasonably priced. It can get very crowded at times and if you're coming in for dinner, be sure to be there a bit early as the queue can be very long. Meals are served in humongous plates (no exaggeration!). Try the curry laksa, boneless drumstick with special sauce, hainanese chicken and chicken fried rice! Yum! We had the wonton noodle soup once but i found the soup quite strong (tastes of burnt pork - burnt in a bad way) so i would not recommend it. As it is a Malaysian restaurant, the kitchen uses shrimp paste/belachan which can be overpowering to the uninitiated. The smell can permeate beyond the kitchen walls, so be forewarned!
