China Bar in Melbourne is a large modern Chinese style restaurant with lots of friendly, attentive staff and a great variety of food. For those who are not wholly into the Asian food, there is a salad bar. You can choose from a variety of entrees, a chocolate fountain, Asian flavoured icy poles, sushi. There are also hot meals covering some good curries, spicy prawns - a little hard to eat because the shells are still on and the flesh is really stuck to them, mussels and various types of octopus. The chefs in the open kitchen will cook fresh noodles with your choice of ingredients. Since it is a buffet you see some people really stuffing themselves to get their money's worth. The attentive staff keep up the supply of cold water and remove empty plates so that you are not balancing the empties on the small tables.
There is a grill bar upstairs that is open at night. The toilets are also upstairs - suprisingly just two toilets for such a large venue and they are somewhat grungy.
The normal lunchtime price is around $30 but with the China Bar offer of $13.60 for the last two weeks, there has been a surge of new people trying it out.
The dessert bar has a large selection of generally ordinary tasting desserts. For the discount price it was a great opportunity to try it out, but at the full rate and not being a glutton, I would not go there again.

Buffet has wide selection of Chinese foods.

Also has good variety of sushi.

Go upstairs if you would like to have a piece of meat or fish custom grilled.

Very good dessert selection - be sure to save some room for this.

Overall, for a buffet, good selection and quality. Food appears to be well presented. I've been here a few times and always have left full.

Judging from the number of locals eating here, it appears that the buffet is a very popular place to dine.

Be sure not to confuse this location with the other "China Bar" locations in town.

We had lunch in China Bar Signature last week. We didn't make any reservation, but the lady we met in the reception was very friendly and gave us a table.
The restaurant was about 80% full and quite busy. The atmosphere was as good as it should. It's not like typical chinese restaurant: full of tables and difficult to move around. In China Bar, it felt like you were in a fine dining restaurant.
We were pleased with the variety of the food. The soup was superb. We had crab soup and herbal soup. They tasted original and yummy!
Dimsums were exquisite! Chicken legs, meat balls, pork ribs, hakau, they all tasted very good.
Main menus were pork ribs, mussels, fried rice, noodles, etc etc.
The pork ribs were a bit sweeter than we expected, but we still loved it!
With the price we paid ($29), this lunch was surely one of the best value we got in Melbourne.
For comparison, one portion of lunch in all other Melbourne restaurants costs minimal $10.
We didn't even have enough place for desserts. We just tried some cakes, could even touch the chocolate fountain because we were so full!

Best Value in Melbourne for sure. Best taste? Probable not, but still, we give 9.5 of 10 for overall rating.

Don't even waste your time on this one! If you want real Chinese food head down to China town in little Bourke St. Most of the food is either to sweet or too salty.
