“Good location, a bit run down.”
Reviewed August 15, 2013 via mobile

Stayed in a double room for 3 nights. Good sized room with wardrobe and small coffee table. The downside is that the room is on the opposite side of the building to the bathrooms. The bed is also worn out and is in need of replacement. The room was clean and it smelt pleasant which is always good.

The reception was very helpful in sorting us out and also giving us the security cards. There is a standard $20 bond which you will get back later on.

Bathrooms are separated men and women. Your are required to use your key card to get into the bathroom which is a first for me but it does make sense. Bathrooms are clean and have good showers.

The building itself is worn down and the hallways are drab. But that adds to the character I suppose. No complaints and would stay here again if I needed.

Location is great with Melbourne central station right around the corner. Plenty of eateries around open till quite late. If you want groceries there is an aldi just across the street.

At first I wasn't too sure about this place, the reception is on the first floor which seemed a bit odd to me. The room was a good size 6 share, with locker facilities, oscillating fan and the best bit, the quietist beds I've encountered in any hostel! Proper rigid! Not the cleanest of rooms with a layer of dust on top of the lockers clearly visible from the top bunks.
It seems like a safe and secure place to stay, with key card entry to all rooms and to enter the building between 8pm & 8am. There are large toilet, wash & shower facilities on all floors but the second floor was a bit of a let down, the first shower I used sprayed water all over the ceiling and over my dry clothes, then the second shower the hot tap handle span and undone, 3rd time lucky a nice hot shower, with no interruption of heat (which I've encountered a lot!)
There's free breakfast in the morning and a cleaner who who comes around everyday to empty bins etc. the kitchen is large, well equipped and has a walk in fridge.
The Internet here is a joke and very expensive. The free Internet with a weeks stay, last no time! 500mbs or if you pay for the weeks Internet $40! You get 2gb very overpriced compared to global gossips. The location is good! The bar next door allows 10% off of the overpriced drinks if you show your card when ordering, too late if you don't with no refund (my fault, but very annoying) all in all an alright place to stay.

Stayed at MIB around August, 2012 for 3 days. We can reach the hotel easy, because of good location. Close enough from Flinder Street and Victoria Market. There are some restaurant and mini market around the hotel. For the hostel itself, the bathroom is clean. The bedroom is quite big (4 bed dorm). The staff was very helpful. We never queue for anything. The hostel have the bar in the 1st floor. Overall, It was OK.

My boyfriend and I stayed at the backpackers for two nights.

Reception was pretty nice and helpful.
The backpackers location was great, very close to the main city hub. The only downside of the location is that the windows aren't sound proof and you can hear all the cars and street noise.
The part I loved most about this backpackers was the showers!!! The bathroom is one where there are shower cubicles and toilet cubicles. The showers were great and very clean :)

I was in a room of ten (5 bunk beds). The room could have done with a few more power points. Everyone's stuff was pretty much everywhere. So I highly recommend that when you stay in a larger room, try and keep your stuff as close as you can.

Kitchen is very large. Breakfast is provided for free between 7-9:30.

Bring your own towel and maybe even pillow. Pillows were paper thin.

Room Tip: Maybe get a room on a higher level, might reduce sound noise while your trying to sleep. It might e...

It's location on Elizabeth is pretty good, traffic will wake you up early on your first night but after that you won't notice it. Close enough to Flinders Street, very close to most things including library, free tram. Large hostel but not unfriendly - TV, laundry, storage, lots of fridge and cooking space. Rooms are a little basic, bathrooms good, never really had to queue for anything. Staff are a little odd and a bit useless but you get what you need from them.

Stayed at MIB about a month ago. I've not stayed in such a big hostel before and figured it'd be noisy and busy but I was wrong.
The kitchen does get pretty manic at times but waiting times aren't the worst. The room we had (6 bed dorm) was really big and immaculate, cleaned regularly.
The staff were very helpful on reception with any questions we had.
The hostel has a bar on the bottom floor (we never heard any noise from it). They do a comedy night that is well worth going to if only for the fact that it was so bad it was hilarious when we went. The final act was great but almost everyone else died horribly. There's good drink deals to visit the bar for at the very least.

We stayed in a 6 bed dorm. This is a large hostel which normally means noise and mess however this place is very clean and there is no noise whatsoever from within the hostel. Even the bar attached doesn't produce any noise. All the reception staff were very friendly and helpful and the blonde lady who checked us in was one of the best there. The free breakfast is really good - cereals, toast and pancakes (the queue for the pancakes is a bit long but that's because people are cooking for all their friends). The room was hot as it was a freak week of heat but it cooled down at night when you needed to sleep. Air con isn't really needed in Melbourne. The only gripe with this place was the lack of saucepans/ frying pans in the kitchen. Not quite enough for everyone to use. Other than that excellent.
