Looking at other reviews i wonder if they stayed at the same hostel as me!!??

Admittedly some nights are really lively so if you're looking for a quiet nights sleep then this isnt perhaps the hostel for you. But hey, its a travellers hostel, what do you expect?? Because of its small size its really friendly and almost family like at times. Staff are all realy helpful and the location and prices are pretty hard to beat. I never had any troubles with bedbugs and for a hostel its as clean as you can be with hoards of smelly backpackers!

Overal i'd say its the best hostel i've stayed in in melbourne.

Room Tip: upstairs rooms are quieter

i came to australia with next to no money and a job that i had, that turned out to be not a job at all. I had chosen Melbourne connection from the lonely planet guide it said it had a warm and small atmosphere not like the bigger manufacture ones. I was pretty depressed slowly running out of money, if it wasnt for the staff and people staying in the melbourne connection i wouldnt be now having the time of my life. The crowd that this this hostel attracts are warm friendly open minded people and the staff reflect the people that come here, i have recieved so much help with directions and things to do from the staff. The rooms are spacious and it has more of a homely feel than a big building with people coming and going where no one has time to stop and chat. I have been here three weeks now and i am not leaving any time soon, im having the time of my life, there is a amazing basement with a hard drive media box with hundreds of films and sky tv in another lounge, some nights there are a warm crowd of people all watching a film together, and every one gets together on some of the big nights out in the kitchen to drink and socialise with each other, if you want a real hostel experience and the chance to meet great people...... this is the place to be

This is the worst hostel I have ever stayed in my life.

We were in the room next door to the tv room which was noisy enough but you kind of expect it to be noisy in hostels, what you don't expect are pipes that run through the room which are so loud you can't sleep and can hear the vibrating pipes through ear plugs. This goes on all night.
The rooms are filthy, from what i can tell they are never cleaned as it seems people live there, the sheets i was given were damp and the made me itch for days.

The bathrooms actually made me heave, they smell so badly of urine you feel dirtier when you get out of the shower than when you get in. I saw a girl "cleaning " one of the shower rooms one day so i decided to wait and use it once cleaned - it was filthy, pubes all over the floor, dirty toilet bowl, scum on all the surfaces. GRIM.
I cannot find any other words that sum up how much i hated this hostel. AVOID AVOID AVOID.

The only good thing about this place is the location close to the city center. Kitchens were small and they were always dirty. Bathrooms, also dirty, with shower and toilet in the same room. Dorms were extremely noisy, impossible to sleep. It was almost a cave with really small windows. It is cheap, but it should be even cheaper for what you receive.

These people just don't care. I booked one night at this hostel as I needed to be in Melbourne for a close relative's funeral. On arriving in Melbourne I was offered accommodation by family and so phoned the hostel to cancel my booking. I was told I would get a partial refund to my credit card. It never happened and so I emailed them and never got a reply. All I can say, therefore, is that the people running this hostel are dishonest and I would not recommend it to anyone.

I hardly slept because of the loud noise. I stayed on a Saturday night but I doubt it would be much better on other nights. The nextdoor pubs were noisy until 4pm, the TV room was next door, & noisy pipes were a pain. The lockers were too small. The only thing I liked about this hostel is the location.

Im sorry to write a poor review but I have to be honest. This hostel was the worst i have stayed in and I have come across a few on my travels. It was just plain awful and bad. first of all it was just grim, dirty and extremley shabby. I stayed for four nights and was covered in bed bugs over my whole body even on my face. The rooms have no air con and no window to open, there just seemd to be no air at all in the rooms making it a very uncomfortable nights sleep for everyone, some people even slept in the tv room cause the dorms were just too stuffy. As for the bathroom facilities they were disgusting, dity and covered in other peoles body hair. the showers are situated right next to the kitchen area and you are lucky if you can close the bathroom door for privacy as the locks were all faulty and left a large gap of the door not being closed whilst you showered next to the kitchen, the bathrooms reminded me of shower rooms I have visited in prison museums. My bunk bed was covered in dirty graffiti. All In all I am sorry to say that I hated every minute and felt very uncomfortable staying here
