“Great refurbishment poor maintenance”
Reviewed March 16, 2012

Lovely design and colour scheme of new refurbishment, but it was dirty, scuffs, marks, chips in many many places, the beds were messily remade and washing up was only half done by housekeeping, watched a cotton bud sit on the floor for 3 days, could still be there, the key card wouldn't work, the bed was terrible, air conditioner turned it self off, not good in 39 degree temperatures, reception staff were friendly but this didn't make up for other things lacking. A shame because it is in a great position.

Room Tip: Check room card works before going up.

Recently stayed one week at this hotel and it was no where near perfect.

We stayed in a one bedroom apartment whilst other family members stayed in a two bedroom unit on the same floor.

If you're planning to book a two bedroom, beware that there is only one small bathroom to share. The room was generally alright but only one air con to service the whole unit and it was leaking.

Back to our one bedroom, the renovated rooms are reasonable but they must not have spent that much on their bathrooms because their bath tub looked old with all the stains. The bath is badly designed as the glass was too narrow which meant every time you took a shower, water would splash out no matter how careful you were. The strength of the shower wasn't really impressive either.

On the second day we noticed a bag went missing from our room after the room was cleaned. The big paper bag sat beside the kitchen bench and contained brand new goods that we'd purchased, still wrapped in plastic (it was clearly away from the bin).

Once we noticed the bag was missing, we reported this to hotel staff. After some investigation, they said no one else apart from service personnel had gone into the room and they would investigate with the house keeping staff and report the incident to the manager.

The next day we spoke to the manager (who was very understanding and helpful) but was advised the house keeping staff who had cleaned our room had the day off. He advised us to obtain a police report and would keep us informed on their investigations.

It's been two weeks since (a week after check-out) and we have not heard once from Mantra. Irrespective of why and how the bag went missing, I think it is reasonable to expect the hotel to follow up and inform us of their findings/resolution to the matter. However, as I said we have NOT heard from the hotel once even though I've verbally checked with them twice when I was still staying at the hotel and subsequently following up with an email after we'd checked out.

Another disappointing thing that I must mention is one day after I came back to the room which was supposedly cleaned, I found towers unfolded and left randomly in the bathroom and the bins weren't even emptied, nor were the carpets vacuumed.

Overall, I am very disappointed with the hotel, whilst the location was alright, for the same price, there are certainly better hotels available in Melbourne. I expected more from the Mantra brand but was completely disappointed and will NOT likely stay again.

I recently stayed here with 3 other gf's as a girls wknd away, was a good location i thought and the rooms were a bit weirdly designed but all together was ok.BUT was really annoyed as we had no aircon all wknd ( this was when its 38 degrees ! ) asked for fans at reception and was given one pedestal fan ....would have liked about 4 as there is 4 people?. asked to fix it but the guy didnt really understand my englsih??? also got given 4 cards to access room( 1 each ) and only 1 worked. then got more and still didnt work so we had to rely on one card

Look wasnt the end of the world and i didnt hate it!

BUT

I am a travel agent and have been for over 4 years so obviusly this review I am going to have to pass on.Would have been nice to have lots of good to say other than there was no aircon.

I saw that someone who stayed 2 wks before us thought the apartment was tired & sparsely furnished.
We stayed on 25th Feb - room 604 and were delighted - maybe they are gradually refurbishing the place.
We almost stayed at an Oaks establishment but who wants a 10.00am checkout.
Exhibition Str is a great location in Melbourne & at around $150 a night great value altho if u like an en suite to be with a pace u might be dissapointed with the walk to the bathroom :)
Nice toiletries, decent size towels - their car park is not theirs but is close by & there is a 5 min drop off.

Well-positioned, it delivered what was promised but it looked very tired and in need of re-furbishing. We had a 2 bedroom apartment - furnishings and decor were sparse and it had the bare essentials. Beds were ok, place was clean, facilities were minimum and of a regular standard. It was well-priced for the location but not for the standard.

Dear WestyTweedValley,

Thank you for your review. It is good to get constructive and honest feedback. I am glad to hear that you enjoyed our location and the service of my staff. Last year we did undergo an extensive refurbishment replacing furniture, TV's, carpet and other items. This process is still ongoing and we are always looking to make more improvements where we can.

I appreciate your feedback and we look forward to seeing you again soon.

We stayed here from 12/2 to 15/2 in Apartment 308 Exhibition view.
So very quiet and apartment was so clean and staff were so helpful.
The kitchen was well stocked with all cooking items 3 saucepans,2 fry pans etc
Microwave,2 glass hotplates,Fridge,toaster,Jug etc.
Enough crockery & cutlery for three people even wine glasses.
Rooms-Lounge with a sliding door that seperated the bedroom-both these rooms were large and the bathroom was an excellent size with bath and shower and there were heaps of hot water and good towels..
Even a washer/dryer in a seperate cupboard.
Floor to ceiling was about 15 feet so this gave the feeling of lots of space.
The internet kiosk is excellent 20 mins for $2 and easy to use.

We usually stay at The Sofitel in fact we were staying there when we came around the corner into Exhibition St and saw Mantra Exhibition. We called in and they gave us a very good deal for 3 nights.I have looked at some of the reviews and could have been easily been put off but after staying at Mantra Exhibition I just wonder what some of you want in an inner city apartment.
The furniture looked like it was new and after the first night under a very hot doona we asked for a blanket instead of the doona, the blanket was very fluffy and clean.

There is a Subway and a 7/11 store almost next door to the apartments and towards Bourke st is a PIE FACE shop that sells excellent pies of all descriptions plus many other little eating shops in the area.

Something about our Mantra Exhibition apartment was a feeling of a cosy place-you don't get that feel in a hotel room and over the last year we have stayed in many because of medical appointments that require us to be in Melbourne from the country for several days at a time.
So "Thank You Mantra Exhibition"
.

Wanted a nice comfy place to stay to also celebrate my partner's birthday which was held on Collins St. Great location, easy to get to anywhere around popular city spots either by foot or tram, but not noisy within the rooms. Great use of space in the 1br apartment with full kitchen facilities, dining area, lounge area, decent view and separate bedroom with sliding doors. Absolutely clean and immaculate upon arrival. When it comes to hotels, it's the small things that count. Getting greeted by hotel staff anytime of day or night, premium bedding including sheets & pillows, superbly comfortable matress, large bathroom. Paid $169 for the night, not much to fault here other than carparking is a little steep and a chore to get to the garage but this is understandable for inner city.. Will not hesitate to stay again.
