“Good service & value for money”

Enjoyed my stay in Melbourne with Somerset. Very good service provided by the staff. Special mention to Philip and Bow. Excellent CBD location. Plenty of restaurants and facilities near by. Comfortable apartments. Outside recreation area needs to be updated. Fitness / Spa and breakfast Ok.

Stayed here in a 3 bedroom apartment - which had everything including 3 bathrooms, 3 toilets, 2 kitchens, 5 televisions and 5 beds which came in handy as we were on a all girls theatre and shopping weekend. The apartment was extremely comfortable, well furnished and very clean. The hotel was perfectly situated in the heart of Melbourne with a tram stop conveniently located outside the front door. The conceige staff of the hotel were extremely helpful and cheery especially Luke: He provided a wonderful, friendly, genuine service. Luke provided us with travel tips, shopping tips, catered to our every request and he certainly provided us with the best conceirge service we have ever experienced in any hotel. His happy greeting morning and night certainly was a highlight of our 3 day trip and oh he makes really good poached eggs as well!! I would certainly recommend this apartment hotel to anybody wanting inner city accommodation. This is our 2nd stay at this hotel as a large group and certainly booking here again for our next trip in 5 months time. Thanks for your great service Luke!

I just spent 2 nights at this serviced appartments.... and it did not impress me at all........... It was bland and not the cleanest place I have stayed at. The aircondition just did not work and luckly we could open the window to get some air. The bathroom was dirty and there was dirt marks on the Curtains in the bedroom. The staff in reception were the most miserable staff I have ever experienced...... They actually seemed as if they begrudged working there...... Would never look at staying here again, which is a shame as it was in such a great location

We stayed at the Somerset on Elizabeth for 3 nights, having obtained 2 nights free with our purchase of a TV. It was the highest rated Melbourne hotel on the promotion's available hotel list.

First of all, the positives:
1. Location - terrific location, you can walk to all the CBD attractions, shops and Casino.
2. Friendly cleaning staff, polite and helpful.

Negatives (here we go):
1. By far the worst - the bed was terrible. I could've forgiven everything else if this had been ok. So uncomfortable. I woke up in pain and that has never happened to me in my life. I have slept in caravan park cabins with better beds. The bed was so worn out every slight movement sent the springs squeaking. I wanted to leave the hotel because of this, but with the cost of moving to another hotel was out of our budget, and we perservered. I honestly believe we would've been more comfy on the ground. Every day we woke up in pain and with headaches, which is not how you want to spend your holiday.

2. Air conditioning unresponsive - the air con was on heat, being winter, but it was SO hot we woke up sweating every night, even after only using a sheet. This is Melbourne, in winter!! We tried to turn it down, but the unit was unresponsive.

3. Fitness Area - whilst the gym equip was fine and usable, though a little old, the spa area was woeful. In the 6or 8 person spa only 4 jets worked (ie the area where 1 person sat), and they just pumped out cleaning chemicals no matter what we did. The whole thing was filthy as though it has never been cleaned properly anyway.

4. Towels - stunk of really bad chemicals, made us feel ill to use them.

5. Shower. Had to be so gentle with the tap - otherwise you would be scalded or frozen, even the most tiny of movements of the tap would cause this to happen.

6. Bathroom sink spout - loose, every time turned on the whole thing moved.

7. Dirty bathroom. The easy things were kept clean ie fresh towels and soap but the inside of the shower looked uncleaned for a long time.

8. Front desk staff - pretty rude and unhelpful, just doing the minimum they had to do. The cleaning staff were much nicer.

9. Poor tv reception in lounge area (on plasma). bedroom tv had good reception but didnt have as many channels.

I should've listened to all the other reviewers on this site. But we didnt have much choice, given our first 2 nights were paid for. Please do not make the same mistake we did. I want to add - we had a fantastic time in Melbourne (great city, so much to see and do), but hated coming home each night to this terrible hotel. Somerset on Elizabeth needs urgent refurbishment - it has not aged well but the staff don't seem to care. If I could give it a lower rating I would. Very disappointing .

2 night stay in 1 bedroom deluxe on 6th floor which was clean & modern with kitchenette and laundry facilities. Very comfortable bed and pillows! A little street noise filtered through at night but not enough to impede sleep. Front reception not overly-friendly but courteous and efficient. Great central location and value for money.

We stayed for a night and arrived at reception at about 830pm. Lady at front desk was robotic, no welcome greeting, smile, or offer of assistance. Just pay for your rooms, leave a security bond, take your keys and off you go. Asked for assistance to nearest supermarket but never got there as directions given were not clear. Could have offered us a map.

Kitchen in the room needs renovation. Cabinets were old, and dated. Coffee/tea hidden in cabinet though it was complementary. Wouldn't want to cook in the kitchen as it looked dirty.

Tap for shower hard to manouver. A slight turn on the knob causes water to be too cold or too hot. Took us a long time to get it right. When we finally got it, we dare not turn the water off, and the next person quickly got in to shower.

Clothes washer malfunction. Knob cycle does not turn, so it stays on the same cycle all the time. Had to maually turn the knob so that it can rinse, wash, spin etc. Dryer timer also not working. Cothes were drying in there the whole night, and never turn off though clothes were already dry. Very bad for the clothes.

When sleeping, could hear the traffic noise, horse galloping etc. So quite noisy. May be quieter if facing the carpark.

Beds are comfortable and bedsheets were smooth and soft. Location is very good, surrounded by eateries and shopping. 15mins walk to Queen Victoria Market.

Will probably not stay here again, as we stayed at a better apt on our return leg for almost the same price.
