This was an ideal location for our conference. Just a few minutes walk from the venue.

For the right price I would stay here again. We booked this hotel after a nightmare at another hotel which claimed to be a 4.5 star.... this place is good if you're after basic quality in a good location. The room we had was 714 and you did hear the night club next door a little bit, but the king bed (2 singles pushed together with sheets over top for a king) was comfortable so sleeping was no problem anyway. At the right price I'd stay here again, it was clean and the room was a nice size - we booked a King Executive. We paid a premium price of $219 per night as Melbourne was booked out for Grand Finals and Cycling World Championships and we were desperate to leave the other place we booked in advance, this was one of the only rooms left avail in Melbourne. Definitely not the romantic getaway we were seeking but under the circumstances we had no alternative any more. The staff were really friendly too, which made our stay quite pleasant too. If you're after something basic and central, this will do the job nicely. Car parking was also quite reasonable only $14 per night, just a 5 min walk away.

Location wise, the hotel is near the Southern Cross station. One of the reason we chose to stay at the Hotel Ibis before our arrival in Melbourne. It is a 5 to 10 minutes walk to the City Circle tram and Tourist Shuttle bus pickup points. The City Circle tram and Tourist shuttle bus is a free service.

Not so good point about the location of this hotel which warrants only a 2 star rating is the stretch of Little Burke St where the hotel's entrance is located. That stretch of Little Burke Street can be quite isolated and quiet especially after it turns dark. It was a concern for both of us girls. So we always made it a point to be back at the hotel by 6 pm. And we always accessed the Hotel from King St which is a shorter walk along Little Burke St than accessing the Hotel via Spencer St. Even if we have to take a longer route to the Hotel.

There is no difficulty in getting food around the hotel. You can get restaurants and eatery along King St. A food court and 7-11 store is nearby at the Southern Cross station.

Room is clean with TV, fridge and all those facilities that come in a hotel room. Reception is helpful and all our requests were attended to by the hotel management within reasonable time. And the hotel rates are budget friendly.

I will not be staying at Hotel Ibis Little Burke St if I am in Melbourne and there are other accomodations available to me. No complaints about the Hotel's management but rather the location of the hotel from my perspective. If location is not an issue, I would say go for it.

Dear TravelBug1081

Thank you for taking the time to write such an extensive reveiw, this is much appreciated and have shared your comments with the team.

Yes we are located in one of the Little Streets in Melbourne, which do not have trams and large volumes of traffic down it. This can be an advantage from the quietness aspect of our location and can also lead to a perception that in the evening the area is very isolated due to the high volume of residential apartments in the street.

Once again many thanks for your feedback and good luck with your travels.

many thanks

My colleague and I stayed four nights to attend a Hospitality Trade Fair. All good from our perspective - got a good deal booking online. Friendly helpful staff at reception on both shifts, comfy beds, tea and coffee making facilities in room, clean bathroom with great shower. O.K. so the view wasn't great, but what would you expect in the inner city. Half a block from the train/bus station, handy to trams and the inner city. We were on the 4th floor and heard no noise at all, either inside or outside the hotel, even though early Sunday morning people were still coming out of the nightclubs on King St, as I discovered when I ventured out. Wireless internet was an extra, so just used the coin operated computers in the lobby. The receptionist recommended the best place for coffee and she was right on to it!

Its the same as any other Ibis anywhere else in the world good value for money The room was as you would expect, breakfast was good though sometimes a little unorganised. The hotel has a good location just off one of the main streets through the city and runs directly to flinders station
