“Pub grub and people watching!”
Reviewed October 18, 2012

What a great little place away from the hustle and bustle of Melbounre. You can sit in a window seat and enjoy nice food and just watch the world go by! It's the busiest intersection in town and it doesn't disappoint for people watching.
The food is pub/cafe menu - like chicken parma but they have a range of steaks, fish and noodles. Every time I've eaten here I've never been disappointed with the quality or the quantity - this is not the 'deep fry everything' and let's over pile the plate - kind of place. Great value with a main even meal costing $20-$25.

“This place never disappoints”
Reviewed September 24, 2012

This is one of my favourite haunts when it comes to dinning in Melbourne. The quality of the food is exceptional and the prices are great considering you are right in the heart of the city. Try and get a table near a window and watch the world go by.

“Great spot for a drink”
Reviewed July 16, 2012

Whenever in Melbourne we go to Y&J for a drink. We prefer eiother the bar on the corner of Flinders and Swanston or the next floor up in Chloes bar. The lounges are very comfortable and there is always a good range of beers and wines to choose from. The place can get busy but it is always a great place for a drink.

“A magic place”
Reviewed July 12, 2012

The Princes Bridge Hotel, commonly known as Young & Jackson's, dates from the earliest days of Melbourne. A marble tablet at the Swanston Street entrance advises that John Batman, one of Melbourne's founders, purchased the site in 1838 for 100 pounds. That's old in Melbourne terms.

Chloe's Bar is upstairs and has an ambience that you don't find in the large, crowded downstairs bar. The naked, unshaven Chloe, dating from the 1880s, hangs wistfully on the wall opposite the bar. Surprisingly few people take the time to read about the model's sad life, and the sensation caused when the painting was first exhibited in Melbourne.

The bar has a good range of wines, trendy beers and an excellent tapas menu. There is an excellent view of Flinders Street Station and St Kilda Road from the windows. The bar has a private, club-like feel, although anyone can walk in. If your tastes are more downmarket, grab a pint of Guinness downstairs.
