Lots of free concerts, good tourist spot to start in and work your way outwards within the city from there.

I resent paying for wifi in hotels so I booked a hotel near Federation Square which is right in the centre of Melbourne near the main train station and the free buses which take you around the city and I used the free wifi in the square everyday. It was a little slow on occasion but I sent email and photos around the world which was enough for me. I don't think you could download large files.

There a well looked after toilets in the square.

I loved the feeling when I was there. Always a band playing, or an activity happening...I loved the cafes and its positioning to public transport.
