My wife and I went to Muttis early March. I'd never heard of the restaurant, and found it while scouring the internet for somewhere new to eat. Muttis specialise in Austrian-German dishes and as we're visiting Austria later this year, I thought it would be good to get a taste of the food.
The restaurant itself is on a main road (Elgin Street), with reasonable street parking just around the corner on Rathdowne Street. Don't let the location fool you - once you're inside the world disappears (unless you sit in the front open-air section). It is a dark, warm, cosy interior, to match the warm, hearty food on offer.
We had the Pork & Duck Terrine (enough to share), and the Slow Cooked Pork Belly (again enough to share). Both were absolutely delicious and cooked to perfection. The combination of ingredients for both dishes was superb and the food was well-presented. I had intended to have dessert and found I just couldn't manage it after all that. We even took a doggy-bag home with us (which was fabulous in a sandwich the next day).
The waiting staff that we chatted to were Austrian, lending an authentic feel to the place. They were really friendly, happily recommended dishes and drinks, and made sure we were enjoying our meal.
I don't usually tip in restaurants - this was an exception. For a special occasion, or a winter feed, this is a great place to consider!
