Description: Located in the heart of the CBD within the 530 Collins Street Building is Mr Mason, a French inspired bistro and bar featuring a lounge outdoor terrace and dining area. Mr Mason is a modern French influenced menu but certainly not traditional. Playful twists on French classics are what we're all about. Using seasonal ingredients and locally sourced produce we try and keep things fresh and exciting. The menu is designed to suit all occasions. We cater for those just looking for a light snack to go with their beer or wine all the way through to a 6 course tasting menu for the foodies amongst us. Mr Mason offers a wide range of drinks to suit all occasions and time of day. From an expertly made coffee to get your day started to a dessert cocktail to complete your dining experience and everything in between. Our wine list boasts both old world a new world and ranges anywhere between cheap and cheerful to the more complex and sophisticated.

“Delicious!”
Reviewed August 20, 2012 via mobile

Nice restaurant. Decor was nice, but I thought the lighting was a bit too bright, not helped by the fluoro lighting in the arcade outside. Service was great and the food was innovative and delicious and very well presented. The wine list was good and it was nice to be able to order all of the wines by the glass It was nice to sit by the fire on a cold winters night. A very pleasant experience.

“Great Service”
Reviewed July 16, 2012

We recently dined at this restaurant due to its convenience and having been there before for a wine and food night, we thought we would try it again.
Unfortunately the restaurant was booked out for a function so we were slightly rushed which was fine as we had other things to do and that worked well with our agenda.
The service was excellent. The lovely waitress explained some of the dishes and reccommended the size of the dish based on how hungry we were. The wines were served promptly and the food also arrived quickly. The dishes were excellently presented and were delightful.
There is quite a good wine list so you can match the wines with the food quite well. Overall, the restaurant was very nice and we would happily visit it again.

“Great Food and Service, Shame about the noise”
Reviewed June 26, 2012

My friend and I had a wonderful meal at Mr Mason. I ordered the chicken liver parfait, he ordered the salmon tartare as entree's and then I had fish and he had lamb as a main. the food was presented wonderfully....His salmon was so pretty on the plate with salad leaves and flower petals it seemed a shame to eat it. We were so full that we couldn't entertain the thought of dessert. Service was impeccable. The hostess recommended a variety of wines and provided open bottles for us to taste. She was very knowledgable of the contents of the menu and obviously had tried dishes herself. My cocktails were refreshiing and on the large side. the bar staff were very friendly. The prices were very reasonable.

the only negative was that there was an event in the room next to the dining room. Whilst the staff did their best to keep the door closed and apologised profusely to us, even giving us cocktail vouchers to their sister bar, the lound music would constantly interrupt our dinner. Unfortunatley it was mostly down to the guests in the function room forgetting to close the door and letting their kids pop balloons in the restaurant area.

However the food and service was so good, I'd go back in an instant, but probably ascertain if a fucnction was booked when I wanted to go.

“Great food and atmosphere”
Reviewed June 24, 2012

Dined here with friends and we all really enjoyed our entrees and main meals (hapuka fish was excellent). Servings are quite generous so we couldn't fit in dessert. It has a really nice fireplace which makes the atmosphere very warm and inviting in Winter.

“Very Much Worth a Visit”
Reviewed June 9, 2012

Nothing to dislike here! Reasonably priced for Melbourne, this is a popular CBD location on Little Flinders. Casual dining, large portions, one could not go wrong with the salmon tartare, mixed vegetables and creme brulee. Service was not only cheerful but very professional and helful on choices. Definitely worth a try..
