“Great Location, Small But Nice Room, Great Innovation to the MiniBar!”
Reviewed April 24, 2013

I bought an 'Our Deal' Voucher for $100 which entitled me to an overnight stay in a superior (bottom of the range) room so for that kind of money it was definitely good value. I think even if I had paid full price it probably would still be pretty good value. Our room was small, but newly and tastefully decorated with a comfortable queen size bed. The bathroom layout was badly designed and did not maximise the small space. The view out our window was of the alley below but I didn't care. In the morning the sun was streaming in. The Our Deal Voucher spin advertised it as a 'luxurious' overnight stay - no, not luxurious but certainly comfortable.

The building itself is definitive Olde Worlde which I found quite charming. We didn't eat or drink in the hotel so cannot comment but it is an easy walk to a plethora of restaurants and bars. Flinders Street Station is just a couple of minutes walk away - in fact easy access to most of Melbourne's main attractions. The reception staff were pleasant and professional and checking in and out was quick and easy.

One thing about this hotel that struck me as soooo refreshing is the mini bar. Instead of charging ridiculously over the top prices for a beer, a water or a packet of nuts they sensibly charge UNDER the normal price! We were amazed and thought there must be some mistake on the price list - but no! There is a little cardboard note about how they are charging less than shop prices - so of course we used the mini bar instead of going out for a water and a beer. Hooray! Someone finally gets it!! Other hotel chains take note!!!!!!

Overall an enjoyable experience and excellent value.

We found the Rendezvous a nice hotel to stay for a couple of nights very quiet. Room was comfy but the bathroom was a little small not much storage place.
It is close to most things and we were able to walk to most attractions loved walking along the river on Sunday soaking up the sun. Would recommend for a weekend getaway exactly what we were there for visiting family and seeing a couple of footy games.

Stayed here for one night last week. Location is great to access the CBD and for all forms of transport. $50 cab fare from the airport. Old building beautifully restored so that is good and bad. Ambience is great but creaky floorboards inside and outside of rooms may cause disruption to your night. Bathroom is very pokey. If you are of larger proportions you might find using the toilet a tight experience given that it is so close to the bath tub. Ditto the bathtub - there was no separate shower. One of those ones with a partial glass panel to stop water splashing on the floor. Has to be the narrowest tub combined with the severe concave of the base means standing up and turning around a careful manoeuvre - almost dangerous as it is also slippery if not careful. And i am only 67Kg!

Mini bar prices are great and good value when compared to the overpriced offerings of other premises. room was clean and comfortable with a large LCD TV. My room was very quiet as it was at the end of a hallway, but the windows could not be opened and there was no view anyway. I was happy for that trade off - but mobile phone reception was poor as a consequence of the room location. Air-conditioning worked well, was adjustable and was quiet unlike some hotels. Also a choice of pillows. Good for a business trip or a couple for a couple of nights. Plenty of places around to get a feed and a drink.

Room Tip: Ask for a room at the end of a corridor. Use the mini bar - $4 for a Crownie is pretty good! Careful...

First time I stayed here I had an old room, but every time since I've had an updated room and found it to be very pleasant. The only things I didn't like are the shower head (kept falling out of position) and the automatic light timer in the bathroom. Minor inconveniences. The location is great - just a couple minutes' walk to Degreaves Lane for cafes and food.

The Rendezvous Grand Hotel Melbourne is over 100 years old, it is a very pretty classic hotel. The rooms are a bit small but have been upgraded over the years. The bed was comfortable, the bathroom and shower were pretty small but got the job done. I was traveling for business, if I had someone else in the room with me, it definitely would have been very tight. The windows in the room were bolted shut being in such a small room I did not like the closterfobic feeling also in case of a fire there was really no way to escape.

The hotel is in a great location near a lot of great restaurants as well as walking distance to the Crown Casino.

Hotel is in a very good location, in the CBD and across the street from the Flinders St Station. Easily within walking distance of numerous bars and restaurants. Also close to parks just across the Yarra, pretty much an ideal location for a hotel in Melbourne. Staff was helpful and the room was nice.

Was here for a weekend workshop.
Room was clean, but small. There seems to be two different blocks, one older and one newer.
Food in the cafe was ok.
Location is good. Near the train station and also to trams. Walking distance to a lot of attractions in the CBD and Crown Casino.
During checkout, the CSR at the desk took a particularly long time to print me out a receipt. There was a problem with printing, and he couldn't work out why that was the case. Took more than 20 minutes to resolve that problem!

Room Tip: Rooms in newer block seem to be bigger.
