I have stayed in a lot of hotels before, and this was by far the worst service I have ever encounted. We booked through a great travel agent who recommened this hotel for us, and we booked and paid for the room 8 months in advance. We arrived in November at 9.30am to the lady on the front desk, saying we had no record of our bookig??? But we had the documents to prove otherwie. With no appology, we were told that they didnt have a room on th river side that would cater for 3 people. So we thought thats ok. We were told we couldnt check in until 2pm, so could we come back later and our room and bags would be ready. 2pm came round and we where given our key (Not told how to use it, as it is different that other hotels) and arrived on our first floor room to find a tiny, tiny room with one double bed in it (for three people) and no view. We went down and told them of our problem, and they said they would send someone up to fix it (NO APOLOGY) 45 minutes later we decided not to wait and went sightseeing, and had diner. Came back at 9pm, to the room still not fixed!!! so we went downstairs to complain, the guy on the desk didnt even acknowledge us and called house keeping to sort it out!, which they did with in half an hour!! No apology!. SO we had a double bed seperated and a roll away bed, not ideal as the rooms are tiny, and very dark! We actually didnt even need to close the curtains as it would have made no difference. Over all not inpressed at all, as they have had our money for 8 months and you would have hoped that it is a first in first served basis??A free drink in the bar or a bottle of wine would have done it, but nothing!!! I never complain about anything but this is shocking!! The only good thing is its location and the lovely guys who looked after our bags!!I would not be going bag and would not recommend this hotel for anyone, and have also told our travel agent to take it off their bookings list!!

we only stayed 2 nights,we were promised a river view! and got a brick wall.the room was very small.on the second night the power went out only in our room no 103!!,and it was out for nearly 3 hours as the hotel was fully booked we could not be moved to any other room.as we payed $240 a night (room only) very over priced.we recieved a full breakfast for 2 the next morning.a small compensation for our inconvenience the night before...to sum up have stayed once will not be staying again.for that price there is alot better in melbourne...mark and laima :)

My lingering suspicion is: do you get a worse room if you book with a third party like Booking.com instead of direct?

I stayed at The Rendezvous for one night - no problems but here are some observations:

- Broadband - there's a free 3 hour 256k option which is very slow so I had to pay $15 for 24 hours of 1mbs - broadband really should be free and faster in a business hotel. I worked for 3 hours on this connection and it was reliable and efficient.

- I booked through Booking.com and was given room 601, 6th floor but right next to lift so most potential for noise. Slept fine but still wonder if indirect booking gets worse rooms? View from room below.

- Asked for late checkout - was immediately given Noon instead of 11am - good service whenever I met any staff.

- Room was small and a bit dark but bed comfortable and shower modern.

- Attended conference at hotel, conference room was good, ditto buffet lunch.

We requested a twin room when we booked online but they didn't have any twin rooms left. It was subject to availability so we understood. However they upgraded our room to a larger room. The room was very spacious and we were very happy.

All the staff were friendly and helpful. The staff made our stay enjoyable at this hotel. Thank you.

The hotel is situated in a very central location. Some rooms are smaller and faces a side carpark however the staff were very helpful and changed it for me on my second night to a river facing one. The River view rooms are more spacious and appeared to be recently refurbished. Tea and coffee were not replenished everyday but that's minor discomfort compared to the cleanliness of the room.
Overall I was very pleased with the stay.
