This is a very good Melbourne hotel, service is of a very high standard. We were particularly impressed when, on arrival, staff recommended waiting an extra hour for a room at the back, as tram reconstruction work in Flinders Street was noisy and due to go on all weekend. The staff also quickly located a missing bag.
(Note for visitors to Melbourne. It's worth checking if your Melbourne hotel has tram track work going on outside. It happens every 5-10 years on different sections of track and involves breaking up and removing the concrete bed of the track. It goes on day and night over a long weekend and is unbelievably noisy)
The Commerce room itself was the only disappointment with this hotel. It is probably the smallest Australian room I've stayed in. While it had recently been refurbished (fittings, TV, lighting etc., all sparkling new) and sound insulation from other rooms was excellent, it was only just comfortable in size for a couple. The bathroom (shower only) was not well designed and was also too small. I should have gone for a Deluxe room.
The heritage hotel itself is magnificent - an excellent bar overlooking Flinders Street and very good dining room, serving a very generous buffet breakfast.
The Rendezvous is a good (and cheaper) option if you want to stay in central Melbourne and have the option of eating out at Southbank.
