“Incredibly small room, staff walked in whilst sleeping!”
Reviewed October 9, 2012

I am glad I stayed here by myself as noone else would have fitted in the room. Description described designer bathrooms. They must have been designed in the 70's as it was incredibly outdated. Description described 32 inch LCD TV, I got 1990's style 48cm box tv that once turned on couldn't be turned off. Staff member wandered into my room whilst I was sleeping. This was blamed on a staff not updating the booking lists. Only window in the room was non opening and faced a concrete wall. I understand that I was staying on a very busy weekend (Grand Final) however given the room felt the $310 was massive overs!

Stayed here recently for a conference and I found the hotel impeccable.

Very beautiful surroundings and welcoming and efficient staff at check in. I note alot of comments about the small room size. It is true, however, the way they have designed everything, and the furnishings are excellent.

The conference facilities and food was very good. Breakfast was OK, but I will probably opt for a local cafe next time.

Well located to explore Melbourne as well.

Stayed here also over the Grand Final weekend when everything in the city was manic. Booked this hotel months earlier and got a good deal.
The rooms are small and so are the bathrooms but are incredibly well appointed. All the bathroom products you need, plenty of hanging space, included slippers and bath robes. It is always re-assuring too to see the Australian tradition of providing iron/ironing board and tea/coffee/milk in the room. The internet cable was also nice, plus the small ledge along the TV wall to set out all your odds and ends. Would like to have had a shoe shine cloth provided.
Everything in the room was new and well appointed and spotless. It did look onto an interior light well, so no view, but we did request a quiet room. The rooms doors are not acoustic though and you can hear people talking up and down the corridor. Another thing to get used to are the movement sensors for the entry and bathroom lights! Meaning there are no switches for these spaces and the lights activate when you walk in and time out about five minutes later.
The public spaces are beautiful, the older entry foyer, a nice part of the public areas, and the ground floor bar is also a great spot to meet and have a drink.
The night staff were very nice and helpful, but the day duty manager we found gruff and off-hand, not helpful at all.
The location is great right opposite Flinders St station and a tram stop, a short walk to shops on Exhibition Street.

Room Tip: Many rooms overlook a light well, ask specifically if you what a view. Most room I believe are the s...

The rooms got nice furniture bad are extremely small; the bathrooms even smaller and the wardrobe smallest. Mattresses are past their use-by date (and cannot be turned). Valet parking is on the high side (A$34).

Service - be it at the reception or the valets - are efficient, fast and and polite.

Reception area and foyer are charming old world style and a stay could be very enjoyable - but the size of the rooms and the bathrooms are a disgrace. Not to be repeated.

Room Tip: Lokk for an other hotel

On arriving in the room I found a dirty hand towel at the basin and then a dirty used towel scrunched up on the floor. Later when getting into the bed I discovered that they don’t use a doona cover. I think this is disgusting and very unhygienic. When I called Customer Service I was told they did away with the doona covers six months ago and I was the first person to complain. It’s just cost saving! If I could have easily moved hotels I would have been out of there in a flash. I will never go back.

Stayed over for the AFL Grand Final service was great but rooms a tad small. Overall very good. Shame they knock on the door 3 times a day unless you put out the donor disturb sign. Breakfast was very good .

Room Tip: Get a room with a view over spencer street

We stayed at the Rendezvous for one night recently in September. We were lucky to have saved a huge amount of the cost by buying one of the Daily Deals Vouchers. Despite the bargain price that we got, the service was brilliant, the valet parking was a brilliant inclusion, but most of all the breakfast was to die for. I was even able to order poached eggs, as I wasnt able to eat the buffet style scrambled eggs. The room was brilliantly quiet and very clean and modern. The room wasn't huge, but we didn't pay for a huge one either. We didn't bother with the pillow menu, but we could have if we didn't simply pass out dead, after experiencing a very lavish dinner at a Melbourne city restaurant. Well done Rendezvous, we will be back!
