We really enjoyed our stay here recently - an quick walk from the train and tram at the door made exploring easy. The atmosphere and history of the building added to our enjoyment. We were upgraded to a 2 bedroom apartment so had oodles of room. Very cosy, comfortable and quiet. Breakfast was good too. Our check in though was perfunctory and lacking any friendliness.

Stayed in the Grand Hotel Melbourne on Friday night and after reading some reviews didn't expect a great deal but were pleasantly surprised. Very large and spacious room with everything you need for a stay away from home. We are used to having comforts of home and even though we didn't use the kitchenette or spend a great deal of time in the large living area, it was good to have. Loved the king size bed, something that makes a big difference to our stays.
the building itself is old and historic, not really up our alley, but with the additions of sound proofed windows and a few other creature comforts, it made our stay extra special.
Had a grande breakfast which in itself was a bit rich but with an Advantage plus card, 2 for 1 made it well worth the spend.
We would definitely stay here again. No complaints this end.
Oh except, only one lift which was a bit clunky, but there was stairs and we were on holidays so the wait wasn't that bad.

Room Tip: We booked two rooms, for us and another couple. Stole the bigger room but theirs looked good too. Ha...

This really is a special place to stay, iconic as they say.
Superb spacious suite, something special with the layout comfort and facilities.
Love the railway tradition, the views out over the tracks.
Restaurant meal was good but unfortunately closed the next night without warning when I left somewhere else early intending to dine in.
A great experience, something grand indeed by comparison to the generic formulas and rooms on offer elsewhere.
Attentive and professional service from staff too.
