Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed December 31, 2011

I live in Melbourne and stay at the Crown Towers whenever I'm in the mood for the hotel life.

Amazing level of consistency and excellence. The Conservatory buffet is brilliant, the Spa outstanding and the service top notch.

Look no further for a genuine five star stay in Melbs.

After few years we are back at this gorgeous 5 star hotel on the bank of the Yarra River. This hotel is truly on the top of our list of 5 star hotels. Lavish, very high standard of customer service and a professional reception staff. The hotel was extremely busy at the time of our stay so we have to wait for our rooms till after 3pm ( check in is officially at 2pm). We didn't mind the delay that much as we enjoyed the afternoon tea at the Crystal Club in mean time so it all worked out well. Receptionist apologised about the delay and came to see us multiple times during the afternoon tea to update us on room availability. Great service!!
Our rooms were located on the 27th floor - we had a million dollar view over the city, Yarra River and Port Phillip Bay. The room was big, bright, contemporary, with all the little luxuries we like so much - slippers, bath robes, lots of shampoo, shower gel, soap, tooth brush and the list goes on. It's great to have a hot bath with a glass of bubbly while watching your favourite TV program...soooo relaxing. Everything in the room is luxurious : heavenly bed linen and pillows, a bed to die for, huge soft king size towels, wonderful donna, etc. We loved the pillows so much that we actually bought a couple of them and took it home. You can buy them from the shop on the Ground floor for about $190 each, including a pillow case. Cleanliness - 10/10, everything spotless. We also had a complimentary access to the exclusive Crystal Club including afternoon tea, pre-dinner drinks and canapes and breakfast. Afternoon tea was nice but could be better. We had a friend with us who could not eat cakes/sweets because of a medical condition so he was left only with peanuts and coffee. We would suggest for the management to consider such people and maybe offer some sandwiches as well so everybody is looked after. Pre-dinner drinks and canapes were very good, with a choice of hot and cold dishes, good selection of it ( pies, spring rolls, chicken skewers, mixed sandwiches, cheeses, bread and crackers, and more ). Good selection of quality vine, sparkling vine, whiskey, beer, soft drinks , etc. Buffet breakfast was also excellent, with a great service, good selection of food. Over all, we had the most wonderful time, we really enjoyed every minute of our stay and will be back for sure soon. If you want to spoil somebody and you want to do it with style look no further and stay at Crown Towers!

Room Tip: Go high floor and ask for City/Bay view rooms - the view is amazing!

As our christmas present each year we stay for a couple of nights in a club lounge suite in Melbourne. This year we booked 2 nights at Crown Towers and were pleased to be able to check in through the desk at the Crystal Club on the 3rd floor. The room was superb with great views of the city and bed extremely comfortable. Loved the separate dressing area and the bathroom was probably the best we have had in any accommodation. Thats the end of the positives. The warning signs were there the first time we went down to the Crystal Club for afternoon tea and found a limitied array of nibbles (nothing savoury) and long wait to get a coffee but we're on hols so no big issue. For evening drinks and canapes the food range was ok but I'm sure we were sitting at an invisible table. The average time between staff taking an order to the arrival of the order was at least 30 min. The only way to place a follow up order was to run after a waiter to corner him/her to point out the invisible table where it was otherwise impossible to attract any attention. After the usual 30 min wait someone returned to tell us that they were out of the glass of red requested. The whole experience was one of the staff not giving a rats. You can forgive one 'off' session as an abberation but the every time we went to the club lounge the experionce was the same to a greater or lesser extent. Basically the service is crap. They should send the staff to Sofitel Melbourne or Park Hyatt to see how the club lounge experience should work to compliment the hotel. The rooms are recommended but if you are looking to enhance your stay and coughing up more of your hard earned $'s for a club lounge try elsewhere.

Crown Towers – South Bank - Melbourne

Stay 23 - 27 December 2011.

When we stay in Melbourne on a regular basis it’s normally with The Park Hyatt on Parliament Square.

On this occasion for the Christmas period we decided to go closer to the action, not looking for noise, just a different experience, with different views.

Booking was easily made online (5 months in advance). Confirmation calls indicated all was fine closer to the stay.

We arrived on the Friday afternoon on the Eve of the Eve.

Although we could have gone straight to the Executive Club for private check in we did not.
The ground reception, bell desk and concierge are very professional.

The reception staff on recognising our booking details immediately called the Crystal room to notify of guest arrival. We were then escorted to the lifts by reception staff to the Crystal Club.

We were greeted by Executive staff for the check in which was seamless and over in no time.
Hotel information was passed on and we were happy.
Luggage arrived quite fast which was a great thing. Sometimes Hotels can drag their feet a little.

The room was great. We booked an Executive Club Suite.
It offers a large living area (71 m2) and separate bedroom with guaranteed level and views above the 19th floor.
We were given level 25.

Very well appointed, extremely clean. TV’s in the lounge, bedroom and bathroom (for a bath if you want to soak for a while).

Mini-bar area/servery. Glass, mirrors, chandeliers and lamps, all very glitzy, without being in your face. Electric curtains and roman blinds behind that opened to views over the Yarra toward Flinders St Station and opposite to Port Philip Bay.

Lounge furniture and desk for two quite comfortable.
Main King bed was wonderful. Soft as with support. Feather pillows.
What I also liked above the hanging space was the “spare” pillows that were in zipped covers all clean and ready to release and use if you wanted to.

Bathroom amenities were good, quality soaps etc. Plenty of towels. Another surprise was housekeeping. On leaving for the morning’s outings I normally request a service whilst away so we come back to a replenished and serviced atmosphere.

They were very accommodating. “Within an hour if you like” was the response. This Hotel has 550 odd rooms, so that’s great.
As I mentioned, clean.

We notice things as we come and go, and the house keeping staff seemed to be methodical. Vacuumed rooms every time, all areas done regardless of whether you are continuing or checking out.

In room dining was very nice. We ordered lamb, rib eye, prawns, and fish. All were fine and good value, with no delivery to room charge. Recommend the Rib Eye and Lamb.

I don’t have enough time to go through all the offerings for this Hotel, but there are a lot of bars, 40 odd eating places and private restaurants, casino of course. Lobby shop with nice memorabilia plus other high ends shops in the complex like Guess etc.

Board walk is great along the Yarra and at night it lights up.
If you can’t find something to like in this complex, you are hard to please.

Casinos are exactly that so I won’t dwell on it, but is well controlled and the environment was comfortable.

Apart from all mentioned the Towers accommodation is quiet.
There were the odd high velocity squeals from kids in rooms as you stride to the lifts, but hey, it was Christmas.

The Club was a very swish affair. Always greeted by Maitre d’ or suited staff at the entrance desks. It’s comfortable, well appointed. Internal lounging areas with high back chairs and nooks, plus a central dining space and outdoor seating under cover if you wish. (We stayed inside!)

Only thing about the Crystal Club …it’s on the 3rd floor, No views. Perhaps an oversight when they built the dream?

It’s open all day for tea coffee etc and other. Breakfast and evening drinks and canapés. It’s available for food and drinks outside the complimentary times but at cost.

Food on offer included Australian breakfast, with Asian foods in two areas. Fresh fruit, fresh juices, not from a bottle. If you want eggs etc different to what’s on offer they will cook to your desire.
Evening canapés over our stay included a lot. Fine wine, sprits, beers. Smoked salmon and seafood’s, petite sandwiches, cheeses, olives and fetta, breads…the list goes on.

I have to admit the chefs were busy but the club was busiest on Boxing Day evening. Chefs were constantly checking and restocking over the whole time of our stay. They slipped in and out like they were not there. The presentation of the food was excellent.

So, overall the stay was great and we had a relaxing time.

I still like other Hotels in Melbourne and I will definitely hold The Crown Towers in good stead as a choice place to reside at again.

Depending on your reason for a stay here, remember its high end.
Rates for this type of room can be from AU 550 to AU750 PN depending on the deal you can get.

Above that is the Premier Suite which adds AU300 odd PN. Then Villas…um up there.
For that little extra lounge space in a Premier room, I’d leave that and settle for a Club Suite like we had. It was fantastic.

Cheers
Safe Travels

I stayed here on my wedding night in a Premier King room.

Check in was smooth and very pleasant, staff were very friendly. Lobby is amazing.

We walked into our room and our jaws dropped.

The view was phenomenal. The room incredible. The bathroom was AMAZING!

Bathroom was massive, with a rainfall shower, seperate room for toilet (not alot of hotels have these anymore), huge bathtub with TV and great amenities.

Room was large with a very comfortable bed and a comfortable lounge type seat.

Valet service was very helpful at 4am in the morning as well!

We were only there for one night, but I cannot fault this property at all.

Will definitely place this on my most loved hotels in Australia, and will be back!

We spent seven days here as we were visting Melbourne for The Presidents Cup Golf. Not a great start as we had booked a limousine pick up from Melbourne airport via the hotel and it did not show, ringing the hotel from the airport we were advised they had our pick up time as PM not am (not sure how that happened as they had the right flights)

Check in was friendly and efficient and we went straight to concierge to find out what happened with the limousine, They advised that they did not have a booking (so not sure what I got when I rang through). Suffice to say they apologised and gave us a complimentary limousine return to the airport on our departure which was a nice touch.

The room: good Size, floor to ceiling windows that looked out over the river and into Melbourne central. Loved the little window box seat, Good desk with seats either side.
Good size TV, wardrobe and drawers.
Great bathroom, with separate toilet with closed door. Separate shower, two basin handbasin, TV at end of bath. Only issue here is that the bath was quite deep and there was no steps to get in to it and also trying to get out of it without any hand rails was difficult even for a fit person like myself, I really struggled, so if you were an older person or not to fit I would not suggest even getting in the bath, a shame really as once in it was great but then I had the worry of how I was going to get out.

Housekeeping was a hit and miss to be honest and we did comment on this on our departure.
The first day we had a white mark on the side mirror in the bathroom and it was still there on our last day (we checked each day).

Also outside the elevator on our floor was a dried leaf that sat there for four days (again it was a running joke that it would still be there each time we got out of the elevator).

Turndown was good, gorgeous chocolates and the ice bucket filled each night, although on two ocassions they didnt fill up the coffee and sugar so we had to go and ask for this.

Also no bath mats at all - we just used an extra towel and then low and behold on our last night the bath mat appeared. Again little issues but for this level and price of hotel you should not have inconsistencies.

Not a lot of coathangers in the wardrobe but a quick call to housekeeping and more were delivered.

The complex was undergoing some renovations while we were there so when you went out into the complex for restaurants there was a lot of noise from construction work. Also there was a big leak in the Casino roof which shut down some of the casino tables and poker machines (not that it worried us) but it did then spread out into the complex with some of the walkways to restaurants.

We found the best spot for breakfast was in the Casino itself (lovely little restaurant and very good value, their eggs benedict was wonderful ) we ate there each day, some days service was better than others. Tried out a few of the other restaurants and were all very good, also found the foodcourt was great for quick meals and the quality was quite good.

Overall it was a good stay and we chose this hotel out of the many on offer due to the location for pick up for the Golf and also due to the fact that we knew all the International and American Golfers would be staying at the hotel. They did and it was very interesting meeting them in the elevators and in the areas. The whole hotel was done up for the Presidents Cup and was full of celebs so if you were not a golfer then this may have turned you off the place, but for golf lovers we were in heaven.
Would I stay here again if visiting Melbourne, not sure.

We all stayed a night at Crown in a double room, wife, two girls and myself. It was a big room with a beautiful bathroom and the kids loved watching TV in the bath. We had a good view from the 12th floor so could not complain. We had heaps of fun in the pool which is pretty good for an indoor pool. Went to the movies and dinner and had a nice walk along the Yarra. Breakfast at The Conservatory was good although not brilliant like the Langham. On the way out the doorman was terrific with the kids, all up good fun.

Room Tip: A good location in the City, the pool is great
