Last night I decided to take a trip down memory lane and booked in at The Victoria. I stayed here quite a lot in the 80's and had visited occasionally since (although not staying). The property has been extensively renovated (since then) and they have recently refurbished the Mezzanine level. Overall the hotel is of a good standard and level of service friendly and efficient.
The room was large and the beds were comfortable. The furniture had a few small chips and the walls had a few scuff marks, but generally the standard of accommodation was good. The LCD TV was large, the shower great and I particularly liked the Green Tea and free biscuits supplied with the tea and coffee making facilities.
The lobby has always been an Art Deco gem and the recent installation of a chandelier and new seating on the Mezzanine has enhanced it. The Mezzanine Lounge is a great place to watch who's coming and going and the new seating looks good, but some of old coffee tables need to be retired.
Vic's Bar has also had a minor facelift and Alice's had a very good and affordable breakfast ($16.90 for full buffet). The breakfast quality and variety was good and I particularly liked the Bircher Muesli and Pancakes.
It was lovely to return to The Vic after so many years and have no hesitation in recommending it.More
