Location Location Location. A great place to stay in the heart of the CBD. 5 girlfriends and I stayed here for a shopping weekend. We were able to hit the shops and enjoy some wonderful restaurants and easily walk back to the hotel to drop off shopping bags. We had two rooms with triple single beds. Definitely on the small side particularly the bathroom. But, the showers were hot and beds were comfortable. Vic's bar on the mezzanine was a convenient place to meet up and have a cocktail before heading out for dinner. We used the lockers to store out luggage after checkout ($5) while shopping again before heading home. This was sooo reasonably priced. Look out Melbourne we're coming back next year - and staying at The Victoria Hotel.

To be honest, if it had been myself who booked this trip I probably wouldn't have booked this hotel. But in saying that, I would certainly stay here again.
The hotel has a history dating back over 130 years, and still retains a lovely entry hall with stair case and large sitting room. It has it's own little bar and good swimming pool and spa area.
It is undergoing some renovations, but staying on a Saturday night we didn't come across and workmen or noise.
Our room was at the back of the 4th floor, so a little wander along the hotel corridors to get there. I think these corridors added to the charm. It was built a long time ago, you can't expect it to be the same as it's modern counterparts.
The room we were given was a basic room. Small fridge, tea/coffee, biscuits. Small bathroom, but very clean.
Comfortable bed, large TV. Slightly noisy heating. No noise was heard from other rooms.
My only gripe would be that this hotel has gone the way of many others and is using very thin duvets. Unfortunately there wasn't even another blanket supplied in the room but I am sure should I have asked that they would have supplied one.
The buffet breakfast was good. Perhaps a smaller selection from some other places and very busy. They ran out of plates quite often and I couldn't find any spare cutlery.
Again, it is a basic hotel, but the location is excellent and it was clean, tidy and comfortable. We will probably stay here every time we visit the city due to the price and location but if you are looking for a fancy weekend away, this probably isn't the hotel for you.

My sister and I stayed in this hotel in April 2013. The position of the hotel was great, easy walking distance to the city centre, free bus, tram and parks. Although undergoing renovations, they did not impact on us in any way. The room was comfortable with a very good shower. The only negative was that the room was over a lane and we were woken really early by the rubbish trucks. Other than that, I would recommend this hotel for a stay in Melbourne. There are lockers to leave your luggage if you have a later flight and they were inexpensive to use.

Room Tip: Ask for a room not over a laneway!
