The obsolete furniture is matched by the complete indifference for the confort of their guests. The last surprise was the extra pay (no, not cheap, nor announced in advance) for parking. Parking is also very incovenient. An poor arrangement that proved to be ridiculously expensive for what this hotel offers. We will definitely avoid it in our future trips!

If all you want is somewhere to sleep in between days of sightseeing, then look no further. This hotel is right in the middle of the CBD, surrounded by shops and restaurants, and only a short walk from Federation Square, the free tram and free bus stops. Our room was a strange shape but had plenty of floor space for luggage. The bathroom was small but had a large shower. I think the hotel should have let us know that there was work going on which meant that the gym / pool were closed; we also had a long trek to our room having to go up to a higher floor then come back down again. The breakfast included in the price was fairly basic, but sufficient to set us up for the day. Staff on reception were very helpful, especially when we had a puncture. There is parking almost next door to the hotel and an overflow very close by. Look for the rack of discount vouchers near the reception desk. It has lots not just for the city but for the Great Ocean Road too. Many for 10 and 20% so we saved quite a bit.

Such a lovely hotel for the price. The rooms are a bit eccentric as they are older in style but all 6 of our rooms were immaculately clean and tidy. For a place to rest our weary shopping feet, have naps and then shower and change to go out again - this place was perfect. We made use of the Mezzanine floor to meet in a larger space and they kindly allowed us to drink our duty free there and relax. The staff were lovely and helpful - on their advice and booking we had the most fantastic dinner out on our first night! Chose if you want value for money, being as central to the city as you can get and (like me) are a bit of a clean freak!

Room Tip: Ask for quiet rooms if they don't offer -but we got them straight away! But it is central city s...

Walking distance to sights, transport, cafes and shopping. Hotel continuously being modernised so clean and 'fresh'. Basic facilities but good value. Don't buy the breakfast option - more interesting places close by.

I've stayed here a few times. I originally booked it because it was cheap and had options for smoking and non-smoking rooms, which comes in handy when I have to take mum to Melbourne (she smokes, I don't).

Rooms
Heritage Rooms - Non Smoking
The heritage rooms are nice, clean, and modern with a lovely bathroom. The rooms are also very quiet, or perhaps I've just been lucky and every time I've stayed in one there have been very few guests. All in all, I love the heritage rooms, though occasionally in the mornings there can be outside noise coming in, so don't expect a late sleep in.

Normal Rooms - Smoking Allowed
Completely different to the heritage rooms in every way, and that's not a good thing. These rooms have thin walls so any and every noise can be heard, and it seems a lot of guests don't care about being quiet. The decor is a little old and dated, and the bathroom is a little ick. The air conditioner/heater are old and noisy and don't really do that good a job at getting cool or warm air around.

Staff and Service
The only interaction I've had with staff is checking in and out, but staff have been friendly and polite. I also love the fish tank at the reception area.

Location
The Victoria Hotel is in a great location. Just about everything is within walking distance from it. It's a great central hub for wandering around Melbourne.

Room Service
I don't think there's any room service. I've never looked into it, but I haven't seen a menu for it or anything in the rooms.

Overall
Whether or not I recommend this place depends on which room you'll be staying in; normal or heritage. I wouldn't recommend the normal room, unless you're a smoker. However, I would highly recommend the heritage rooms.

Room Tip: Non-smoking Heritage Rooms are far nicer than normal smoking rooms

Great middle of the road hotel right in the middle of Melbourne. Close to everything in the CBD. Great breakfast included. Stayed here for about $110 AUS w/ breakfast for two ! Nice. Very clean room. There is so much nearby, you can't go wrong. Parking on street nearby free after 7:30pm and out before 7:30am $ 12.00 hotel parking is also a cheap option. Construction out front is a bit of a inconvienace.
