Stayed here because of the special rate at the time, had never even known about it before, but surely will stay here again. I had two nights on separate occasions within a week. Treated like royalty, and the location was awesome. Definitely recommend.

Room tip: I had two rooms on different floors on the two occasions. Each was just as nice, think it was the traditional room as advertised for the price I paid.

we spent one night ,with a welcome bottle of french rose and inclusive breakfast. our room was very large, with very high ceilings , old style drapes and swags in keeping with the heritage of the building.a separate dressing room which had the tea making, refrigerator, ironing equipment and full length mirror, the ensuite had an over bath shower, marble fittings etc.the bedding was very comfortable with a terrifically comfortable king bed.there is a pillow menu fot those who are super particular about their sleep requirements.very good in room dining options. we were made very welcome by staff ,housekeeping in particular did their best to chase the missing coffee plunger and supply it ,fresh milk and coffee beans.the decor is a delight within the hotel . even if you dont stay at least drop in and have a drink or an afternoon tea and enjoy old melbourne at its finest. we dined at a restaurant- mezzo -around the corner in little bourke st and highly rate this for any occasion.

We stayed here for a night away from the kids. Can I just say the Hotel itself is beautiful and has that charm that new hotels just do not have. Checkin was a little strange, walked up to Reception and the fellow just stared at his computer screen for about 30seconds before even talking to us. He was pleasent enough but not very interested, did not tell us what was included in our package. We were in a Deluxe Room, very nice, very large with a great view over Spring St. Room had a nice lounge with 2 armchairs and a very big Plasma TV. Bathroom was well appointed and clean. Went out for the afternoon, came back to find our bottle of Rose (which was an inclusion) was waiting for us chilled with two nice glasses. Location is great, we just caught the tram everywhere which was fantastic. One problem, was going to bed with no red bite marks and both myself and wife waking up with one each and were quite itchy. Do not know if it was bed bugs, but seemed like it. They dissapeared after a day or so.
Breakfast was ok, not great... Bread was stale (but i guess you get that when it's left out). Service at breakfast was a little off, no smiles from staff at all.
Checkout was like check in, not very interested. Also tried to charge us for Parking, strange given we did not have a car with us? In any case, it was fixed up.
All in all, for the price we paid it was worth the stay. It is a nice hotel, but dissapointed about the staff given that I have read so many reviews that it was outstanding. The strange red bite marks leads me to believe they might need to get the beds checked.

Room tip: Make sure you stay in a Deluxe Room overlooking Spring St

I have stayed at The Hotel Windsor a number of times and it is my perferred hotel when l come to Melbourne. The Windsor is close to the CBD for shopping, within easy walking distance to tourist spots. But, the best of all is the way the hotel welcomed us, we were treated like favourite relatives coming to stay.

I recently stayed for a two nights at the Windsor. I chose a 'Traditional' room as I was travelling by myself. The room was far bigger than I expected and was decorated in a delightfully old-fashioned style in pretty creams and blues and golds. I thought it very calming and quiet (it overlooked a very dingy inner courtyard and other rooms' plumbing). It was a more than adequate room for one, even two. The bathroom was small, but, again, adequate. It was all well maintained. Oh! And the windows opened - fresh air! I LOVE this in a hotel. I had breakfast each morning in the restaurant which was pleasant (hot buffet with standard hotel choices). I also had Afternoon Tea - *amazing*. All the staff I encountered were friendly and helpful. This is not the hotel for travellers who like the sleek anonymity of a big chain. Expect: tradition and the slightly worn charm of a proper old grand hotel. Loved it. I have already booked my next stay (and Afternoon Tea!).

Room tip: The hotel's own booking website lets you pick a room with a view for a little bit more money and also has a good value breakfast add-on fee.
