Owner description: For more than 30 years, Arts Centre Melbourne has been Melbourne’s leading venue for world-class theatre, dance, music and more. In the Theatres Building, directly under the venue’s iconic Spire, are three separate theatres – the State Theatre, which boasts one of the world’s largest stages and hosts performances by Opera Australia and The Australian Ballet, the Playhouse and the intimate Fairfax Studio. Next door on the banks of the Yarra River, Hamer Hall is a premier venue for musical performances, including the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, and the Sidney Myer Music Bowl is popular for open-air concerts. The new Australian Music Vault features a free exhibition celebrating Australian contemporary music. On Sundays (10am - 4pm), local artisans showcase their unique handmade goods at the Sunday Market. Book tickets at the box office to see a performance or join a guided tour. A range of cafe, dining and bar options are on site and a 24-hour car park available.

We visited the Famous Spiegeltent on the Arts Centre Forecourt. We had to wait outside before the show started, but we purchased drinks at the outside bar and waited for the doors to be opened, while it tried to rain and was chilly. Inside the Siegeltent we then waited another 1/2 hour for the show to start, while some of the cast of "The Trip" tried to entertain us. The seating was arranged like being at a circus, and it made it dificult to see the show. Plus the seats were very uncomfortable and too close together. "The Trip" was an absolute waste of time and we found a drunk old lady in the audience far more entertaining as she was moaning about the show. Would not visit again. A waste of money.

This art centre is one of the most pleasant I have seen around the world. Comfortable, spacious, friendly, nice cafes and restaurants, a must in a city with a sense for art and culture.
Visit, you will be welcomed!

We always go to the restaurant in the centre. We discovered , that it is now necessary to book for lunch. We usually have the salads, because they are always fresh and are away from the usual salads served. in most places. The service is quick and efficient and good value for money.

We saw a Cuban African jazz ensemble here on a Saturday night. The centre has new carpet new bathrooms and a new bar. It's very nicely done, modern fresh and the choice of a bright orange carpet is spot on. It warms up the venue and on a cold winter night is perfect. The only mistake the decorators made was in selecting brass as a material for the bar area. Many years ago I worked in a jewellery shop and every day I had to polish the brass handles. Brass shows every finger print and every drop of liquid. So hence the bar area looks dirty. We had seats in CC on the circle great view but ,remember if you are seeing a pianist they always seem to position the piano to the left of every stage so we were looking at his back.
