I was lucky enough to see Antony and the Johnsons 'Swanlights' concert at Hammer Hall as part of the Melbourne Festival. What an amazing concert but also an amazing venue. I have never visited the The Arts Centre before and I believe it has just been renovated at enormous cost, however, it would have to be a world class concert hall now and is beautifully decorated and very comfortable too, so all in all money well spent.

This arts precinct is a destination in itself. Wander round and appreciate the fantastic buildings. Visit the newly renovated Hamer Hall. Sit quietly inside to escape from the hustle and bustle. For those who appreciate Australian art, the theatres building has an extensive display of paintings by Arthur Boyd, form the Shoalhaven River series. You are allowed to just walk inside, admire, sit quietly and look at the Arthur Boyd works. There is no admission fee, although a guided tour may be booked.

Very comfortable seats, great accoustics, and easy to get to, by tram or train. Loads of eating places nearby at Southbank.

The theatre (to see the Australian Ballet perform Swan Lake) was excellent - despite the stairs! However, we ate in the cafe within the centre and it was less than average. I had to wait over half an hour in a line to order, and the staff seemed very disorganised. I would recommend eating at Southbank before arriving at the centre.
