“Great place but small and parking is difficult”

Interesting place but small and parking is tricky. Close to Fitzroy gardens and Cook's cottage. Friendly people. Lots of beautiful churches around as well.

“Interesting to see older fire equipment”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 18, 2012

This is especially interesting to firefighters from other areas/countries. My husband is a firefighter in the United States. The staff at the museum were all retired firefighters and they and my husband enjoyed sharing stories back and forth. The staff encouraged daughter to try on a fire jacket and an old brass helmet and we were able to take pictures of her on back of truck. What we thought would take less than an hour actually took almost 2 hours to get completely through with all the story telling and everything going on. The staff was very proud to show off their new equipment in the fire station next door. Was interesting to learn the history of professional fire departments. In Australia, at one time insurance companies had fire fighters that went to burning homes and if the home on fire wasn't insured by the particular company that showed up, they would just let the house burn. So glad they now have municipal or city fire departments. Was an enjoyable time. Was a self-guided tour (for the most part) so you could get through in the amount of time you desire,
