Owner description: Explore Australia's history and culture. Journey through Melbourn's history and explore stories of people who have migrated from all reaches of the world. From the reasons for making the journey, to the impact on indigenous communities, these stories are sometimes sad, sometimes funny, but always engaging. Located in the Old Customs House in the heart of the city - an easy walk from Flinders St Station or Southern Cross (or catch the free City Circle Tram).

Some great exhibits which illustrate personal circumstances of the many immigrants to Melbourne. Lovely building and worth a trip to understand more about Australian mindset and culture. particularly liked the photos of the disguises of a former customs officer.

Tracked down the museum past Flinders Station and was so glad I did. The exhibit about Sweets from different cultures with its video footage was fascinating. Also found the stories of people who arrived by boats via the' ten bob Pom' and the Vietnamese Boat people intriguing. Great displays. Would have liked an actual written guide to help organise me because there were a few displays that I missed. Defintely worth a visit and leave enough time.

Came across it by chance walking around Melbourne with the family, entry fee is free for kids so that's always a plus in my book. As both our parents were migrants to Australia we were really interested in see what was here.
I enjoyed the visit as love to study history, many very interesting exhibits to look, but I felt that there was something missing. I really didn't come away feeling moved or connected with any particular area in the museum. It felt to me that they skimmed over many areas and it was a loose collection of exhibits.

This simple informative museum will appeal to all ages and all nationalities. It's quite a shock to be reminded of how far we have come in such a short time. $10 for adults and free for concessions . There is a coffee shop with a small selection of sandwiches and cakes. Allow up to 3 hours for your visit
