Reviewed September 12, 2013

I've stayed at the Mantra for business and for pleasure during the past ten years, and they've always been great. Very clean, although showing some signs of wear and tear. Apartments are well equipped and service is always very good. Great location for business at Southbank, but don't expect a view. Highly recommended.

Room Tip: Two room apartments are fine for families. Full kitchen and laundry facilities in every apartment.

Thank you for providing feedback following your stay with us in September. It is always great to read comments from guests that have stayed with the hotel over many years and to know that we are still able to meet your expectations.

We have recently made some improvements to the hotel including a full painting program in every room, some selected new furniture, new gym equipment and we are about to proceed in re carpeting more rooms over the coming months. We hope that you notice these continued improvements on your next visit and we look forward to welcoming you back.

The hotel does have some amazing views from some of its higher floors that are facing the Botanical Gardnes and Arts precinct so if this is important to you then be sure to request a room with a view on your next stay and we will be sure to do the best to accomdate that request.

The team and I look forward to welcoming you back in the near future.

Kind Regards

Ok, so it's not 5 star, but how would it be at the price. I was worried about the reviews quoting noise problems, but I had 3 really good nights sleep, and I don't sleep well at all when not in my own bed.

We had a 2br apartment on the 6th floor. Overnight the traffic noise wasn't too bad, the occassional big truck could be heard, but generally the road below was empty after dark. First thing in the morning (6.30am) was a bit loud, but being on business I was up and about by then anyway. [Did sleep through to 7:30am on the first morning though].

The rooms were of a reasonable size and comfortable. Kitchen had everything you would need to be self sufficient and there was a built in laundry. I'm 6'5" so the shower was a little cramped (bath under shower) but the water was warm and at good pressuer. Beds were nice and comfy and the airconditioning worked well to keep the place at a reasonable temperature without being noisy.

Staff were friendly and the common areas were clean and no unusual smells etc. I'd be happy to bring the family here for a holiday base and it's location is not too bad, just a short stroll across the bridge to Flinders St station.

Overall, happy with the decision to stay here and would come again.

We booked here as a mystery Wotif and were pleasantly surprised. We had a suite on the 9th floor overlooking the Arts Centre.
The check-in person was very pleasant as were all the other staff we encountered. It seems as if there is a good working environment here.
The room itself was spotless and the bed comfy.
The buffet brekkie was also good at $19 , especially as it was fathers day and my daughter paid ;)
There is onsite parking and the online bonus of free was also a plus.
Location is close to Southbank and Casino area.
There is a pool spa and sauna as well as a gym for those who are keen
All in all a good place at good value due to the mystery deal although at full price would still tick the boxes.

Room Tip: Higher up with views

My friends and I booked the Two Bedroom Corner Apartment and were spectacularly happy! The whole apartment was so spacious, there was heaps of room! There were two bedrooms with a double in each. There was also a pull out sofa bed in the lounge. The bathroom was massive, the shower gave out water at a good pressure. The kitchenette was large and there was heaps of room in the fridge for your own food. Basic cooking utensils were supplied.

The best part of the whole apartment was the view. We got a room that looked out to the Arts Centre. It was breathtaking in the evening. The balcony was long, it was one metre wide all along the perimeter and then there was a section on the corner with chairs. It was great for chilling outside and getting a breath of fresh air.

The location was pretty good, a quick 5-10 minute walk to Crown Casino. Very conveniently located.

Room Tip: If its in your price range, go for the Two Bedroom Corner Apartment! Absolutely worth it!

Thank you so much for taking the time to provide feedback following your stay at the hotel and we are glad that you got to enjoy the experience of our amazing two bedroom corner apartment.

We hope that your comments will be valuable to others who are considering accomodation options in Southbank particularly over the coming festive season. We have recently upgraded many of the beds in these two bedroom corner apartments so that they can now be set up as two double beds or a double and two singles. With a sofa bed in everyroom they can comfortably cater for up to 5 adults so a great option for a group of friends staying in the city for a night on the town.

We hoep that you get the chance to come back and visit us again sometime and enjoy a similar experience. The team and I look forward to welcoming back.

We stayed for two nights and were very pleased with our room 909. However the first room we were given was awful. Facing City Road with very noisy traffic and a very uncomfortable bed, hard and sloping to middle. I was well received at Reception and changed to the better room. It worries me to think that if I recommend this hotel to friends they may be assigned an unsatisfactory room. COtherwise we are inclined to rave about the Mantra on Southbank. All staff we dealt with were exceptional but for one. Housekeeping only fair. Buffet breakfast was excellent.

Great location very nice room however when booking on line there was no mention of the swimming pool being emptied the day we booked in. It was impossible to sleep due to the traffic noise, the worst I've ever experienced in a hotel. Breakfast was nice but very basic and if you stay Sunday the restaurant isn't open either. I probably won't stay here again.

Southbank Mantra’s location is good - the Arts Centre, Hamer Hall, Flinders Street Station, Federation Square, Southbank Promenade, National Gallery of Victoria, Eureka 88, tram stop, eating places, 7-eleven, grocery shop are all an under-5-min walk away.
Apartment was nicely done, clean and carried all essentials. Kitchen was well-equipped, though we missed a frying pan. Bathroom was basic.
Check-in and out was smooth.
We had a great view from our apartment - of the Arts Centre and beyond.

Room Tip: You might want to request an apartment facing the Arts Centre, for a good view.

The hotel is truly in a fantastic location to take advantage of so many of Melbourne's wonderful attractions whether they be of a sporting or artistic nature and of course the abundance of great food and beverage outlets.

With the refurbishment of Hamer Hall now complete there are some great new eateries along the banks of the Yarra River so be sure to check them out next time you are in the area.
