Stayed for three nights at the Stamford Plaza for an excellent rate that included valet parking and buffet breakfast. The hotel's location is excellent; so close to everything in the Melbourne CBD. Valet service on arrival was great, but had to call the concierge to bring our bags up. Room was a good size, with separate bath/toilet/shower/spa area. The bed was hard-as-a-rock with fluffy pillows. Not good for anyone with back problems. Two LCD tv's were great, lovely couch, but a tape deck (?) was also provided in place of an ipod dock (so my ipod stayed in my bag).

There was no view from the room, except of a darkened alley, which can get busy in early mornings due to trucks reversing, a bar downstairs etc but this is the CBD right?

There was also some smoking in the hotel corridors despite being advertised as 'smoke free'. More stickers need to be provided to alert guests I think.

Some staff seemed a bit unhappy, but the young lady at the breakfast reception area was all smiles & welcomes; great to see they have a good asset!

One small peeve, we were charged $4 for mini-bar which we didn't use, this was refunded.

All-in-all, a very good hotel for the Melbourne CBD.

We decided to bring our young son to the city to celebrate the end of the school term and so glad we chose the Stamford Plaza. Its in a great location for getting around to tourist spots and great eateries.
We chose an Easter package which included breakfast, parking and drinks vouchers, so that was great value.
From the moment we pulled up with our car we were looked after. Our car was unloaded for us, and the reception staff member was really welcoming and helpful. Our room was a great size, clean and well appointed. Our bags were delivered within a couple of minutes of arrival.
A few minor things - the really strange bathroom light sensor that turns the light off if you're in the shower; its also really easy to accidentally operate both TVs at the same time! (Not good if you have a child asleep near the big TV and it turns on when you're trying to turn the bedroom TV on). Both of these issues though became manageable by the end of our stay. I was also a bit annoyed that there was no Guest Services Directory and it was only right at the end of our stay that we discovered it on the TV by pressing the Menu button! Perhaps it would be a good idea to mention this to guests when they check in.
Other than that, we really enjoyed ourselves and have decided that it will be our home away from home whenever we are visiting Melbourne CBD.

Stayed for a weekend getaway. The hotel is very well located, and you can walk around the Melbourne CBD very easily from here.
Had to be moved to a second room after one night owing to the early morning wake up call of garbage trucks loading up in an alleyway beside the hotel (nothing like the sound of 1000's of crashing bottles at 4.30am!).
Staff were very understanding about our comments about the early morning noise, so I don't think I was the first one to raise it with them.
Nice bar, very good reception staff who pointed us in the direction of an excellent greek restaurant.
Would we stay here again? Maybe, but might explore some other 5 star options first.

From check-in (where we were upgraded to King room) to check-out, nothing was a problem. Extremely helpful Concierge & Porters - my daughter & I continually asking questions which they were very happy to answer. Great rooms - very comfortable, however don't quite understand the sensor light in the bathroom ... turns off when you're in the shower! Great location - we ate breakfast out every morning as there's heaps of little cafes within 5 minutes offering breakfast from $6 upwards. The best cup cake shop in the arcade/lane just across the road - well worth sampling. Very clean rooms, great to have extra space with lounge & kitchette set-up. Bit noisy laneway at night.

On arrival the front desk "upgraded " us to a suite - 1602 .
We were offered no assistance with baggage , isn't that what porters / concierge are for ?
We were settling in to our room , when we looked up and saw an Indian family of four in our suite . " They were looking for the swimming pool " they suggested in broken hinglish .
We ushered them out and directed them to the door that clearly stated " Swimming Pool " . I closed our suite door then realized that the front door did not latch or secure itself in the closed position .
I immediately returned to the front desk and advised a staff-member as to what had happened and asked that the door lock be repaired whilst we were out for the day . This was not done , as on our return the entry door still would not self-latch . I complained again to the manager , who gave the standard apology and suggested it would be rectified the following day .
The suite was fitted with energy saving sensors , great , sit still on the toilet and the lights go out , lie still in the tub and the lights go out , watch TV in the lounge and the lights and A/c stop. What a circus , but we did get the multiple apologies " that makes it all good "? .
Nice suite , pity about the staff .
How did previous guests fare in this suite or were we just unlucky ?
Still , the hotel policy must be to provide multiple apologies , so I guess all is good .

This was a very last minute decision to stay here as we had checked in to a nearby hotel only to be so horribly dissappointed in it that we literally walked out and up the street with our bags and checked in here. What a relief, a lovely hotel, our room was a 1 bedroom king suite which was perfect in every way. Great location and beautiful breakfast. We were in melbourne to celebrate our wedding anniversary and have now decided we shall come back here to celebrate every year.

Stayed 4 nights in March 2011. Our room had a lounge/kitchen/sitting area separate to the bedroom which was very comfortable. Newish looking kitchen appliances/dishwasher etc although we did not utilise. Bathroom sink and dressing area was also separate to the bathroom/toilet which was a nice touch and made for extra room. Shower in bath but worked well.
Did not use breakfast facilities as there were many other great options in close proximity.
Hotel is in a great location with many restaurants/theartres and other attractions in close proximity.
Only issue I had was that there did not appear to be sufficient check-in/out staff on duty on the day we checked in/out and on the other occasions we walked through the foyer - there was always a queue. This was quite strange as there were always plenty of concierge staff around.
