As a staff member of ACCOR I am always mroe critical about a hotel I was pleasantly surprised by all that was the sofitel melbourne. The hotel is exquisite and the rooms were beautiful... the service was excellent except maybe fault the concierge as they were brief and not very helpful.. the hotel starts on the 35 floor so all the rooms have exellent views the only thing also to fault is there is no pool. but overall 5 out of 5 loved it made my birthday awsome and would stay again! also there was loud music one morning around 4am and they came promptly and asked them to be quite the hotel is also the best situated in the heart of the city and close to the free tram around the city!

Stayed here during the Australian Tennis Open - great location for getting to and from Melbourne Park - either a 10-15min walk or a short walk to the tram which then drops you right outside the park. A gentle walk down to the main Swanston Street area and Federation Square. Checked in at the Club Sofitel which was hassle free - lovely room, very comfortable bed and spacious enough room/bathroom. Turn down service in the evening is always a nice touch. Chose to eat at the breakfast restaurant one morning which was only average - service was slow (not enough staff). The only other downside was that there are 6 lifts operating and they were very slow indeed. Otherwise a very nice place to stay and would stay here again. Reception and concierge staff very friendly and helpful.

This is a fabulous hotel, recently updated and very nicely appointed.
Rooms are really nice, but the most appealing thing about the Sofitel is the Breakfast.

I guarantee you will not get a finer spread anywhere.

And being on the 42nd floor, you get a great view while you're shovelling down the delightful selections available to start the day.

Generally the evening meals are also good in this restaurant, but are a little pricey and the service is just OK, not fantastic.

It's my hotel of choice these days, but if you do stay elsewhere, I strongly suggest you swing by first thing for a helluva feed.

We stayed here again for 1 night after a previous pleasant experience, but this time were disappointed. Felt that for the price you can do better in Melbourne e.g. Park Hyatt or the Westin. Had a corner King suite, fantastice views. The shower head fell off and the air-conditioning was not adequate even though it was turned up fully on a very hot night. Tried the "happy hour" in the 35th floor bar, which was advertised in our room. The waitress had no idea of this deal and didn't appear to have any knowledge of the wines available, and then tried to charge us double the price! We are members of the Sofitel club and registered our disappointment and complaints in the customer survey but have not had any response from management, which is diasappointing.

We stayed here on new years eve as it was the only hotel to advertise a fireworks view, it was $550 for the night and the room was a major disappointment, it was very small and dreary and the bathroom tiles were absolutely filthy, on the bathroom bench your could see the spots around the glasses etc where instead of lifting and wiping the maid had just wiped up to them, there where old glass rings on the surface and the grouting around the toilet was filthy.

The breakfast was cold and the milk jug chipped, when paying $37 each for breakfast I expect it to be warm and well presented, it was neither.

The lifts are terminally slow too and when they eventually come are always stopping at lower floors for groups of people with no hope of fitting in.
