Pretty much what I expected. Everything was ok, I did order room service and the food was very good! My room was on the street and I could look down at the train station. It was quiet, no problem with traffic noise. The bathrooms okay but if you have any issues stepping up and over a tall tub it could be a problem. The front desk help was friendly. I asked if they had any kind of laundry service or washer/dryer in the hotel but the best they had was another location about a 15 min walk away. Like someone else said, "there is nothing wrong with this hotel," just don't think you get more than advertised.
The plus side to this hotel was it is literally across the street from the Southern Cross Station.

We stayed here as part of a large tour group. Our hotel was changed to the Vibe Savoy and we could not have been more pleased. The hotel is older but very well kept. Lots of charm. Our room was small but very nice and the bathroom was also very nice. Our breakfast was included and it was a wonderful buffet. Our favorite was the pancake machine! Across the street is the train station so very convenient. Our stay in Melbourne was memorable for many reasons and one was the lovely Vibe Savoy Hotel.

Got a cheap one night deal on Wotif to stay in town after a show. As with all the Wotif deals, we were allocated a room at the rear overlooking the alleyway. The room was comfortable and clean, but old style patched up to look new. The old shower over bath routine is a giveaway.
The bed was firm and our backs felt it in the morning.

If you have a car, they park it for around the back somewhere. Always makes me nervous and is a pain when you have left something in the car you want. The hassle of getting permission and then finding your car is a pain and dealing with the language barriers of all the foreign staff is even more annoying. I can understand struggling with dialogue when travelling to Paris or Rome, but this is Melbourne.

Anyway, if you are on a budget, this will do fine, but if you can pay a little extra, trade up to something a little nicer, maybe with breakfast included.

Not my preferred style. Very much a retro style hotel. Comfortable bed, minimalist almost industrial rooms. But very functional. Little things let down. The quality of the tv; the quality of the furniture; the cost and nature of wifi; the bathroom and toiletries could be better. However there is nothing absolutely wrong with these aspects. You get what you pay for.
Staff are courteous and friendly, which helps. Breakfasts are a bit industrial too - what you need, rather than perhaps, what you'd want.

Don't expect luxury. Expect what it claims to be.

No reason not to go. No reason to chose over others. Pay your money and take your choice.

Welcoming staff. Early check in and late check out very welcome after a long flight from uk. We had the cheapest room which was fairly basic but was clean, comfortable and ok for an overnight stay. Very convenient for airport shuttle and station.

If you make it to this hotel look for Chris at the front desk. What a breath of fresh air. He gave us such great ideas on where to go and what to see and how to get there. St Kilda festival was on and he sent us there. What a great time! Chris thanks for all you did you made our trip very memoriable, and the day at Philip Island was the highlight of my whole trip!!

Room Tip: rooms are very small but the location was perfect

This is the second time I have stayed at this hotel. The first was years ago when I was in Melbourne for a conference. This time was for leisure. The hotel has a heritage feel but has been well maintained.

Check in was easy but no rooms were available until 2pm. That can't be a fair criticism as that is check in time but we were tired and would have really appreciated a room earlier! Most of the staff are vey customer service orientated and very happy to make suggestions for your time in Melbourne.

The hotel is across the road from Southern Cross Station so quite close to Crown Casino and that side of town. A little bit of a walk to the Bourke Street Mall but also very easy to jump on a tram if you don't feel like walking. A word of warning - you can't buy tickets on trams anymore. You have to have a Myki card. Annoying buy makes sense.

The room was well appointed and very clean. Bed was comfortable. Mini bar prices were expensive. Our tv remote was not working. We reported this to reception and was told it would be fixed / replaced. Unfortunately it wasn't, so our request must have been forgotten.

We didn't have breakfast at the hotel this time, but I do remember from last time it was very good. There are two lifts and one is out of action so there were some long waits for the lift due to the hotel being full. There is a sign that seems to indicate that the lift won't be fixed anytime soon.

Overall a few minor things could be improved but would definitely recommend Vibe Savoy. Good location, well priced and a nice, comfortable place to stay!
