This property is Rydges by name, not by nature. We have stayed here twice, to give them the benefit of the doubt after our first visit.
Rooms are tired, dirty and in need of some tlc. Our room on the 1st floor, had mould in the bathroom, a VERY NOISY air conditioner, stained bedspreads and cracked glass on the shower screen to name a few.
Breakfast was ok, however reconstituted orange juice decanted into old wine bottles does little to increase its taste or value.
We stayed at the Melb central property for a few nights after and were extremely pleased.
Lift your game here Mr Rydges!!

Its disappointing to see our housekeeping has dropped the ball on this room - I have reviewed inspection procedures with the housekeeping supervisor to ensure our high standards are consistently met.

We have had custom made and printed bottles for the morning juices - the same as all Rydges properties have rolled out recently, they look great and are a really good alternative to decanting into large urns as in the past. check out some of the images on the Rydges website. A lot of emphasis has been put on freshening up the breakfast selections and presentation across the group, the feedback has been really positive to date and we are pleased with the new look.

We had appointments at the royal children's hospital and rydges north Melbourne is a 3 minute walk to the hospital which is fantastic. Everything about our stay was fantastic the staff, our room, the restaurant. The staff are so friendly and helpful I cannot speak highly enough of them. This is now our venue of choice to stay and would highly recommend it to anyone.

Room Tip: We stayed In a king suite. 2 adults and 3 children was the perfect size.

Location is perfect for the Royal Childrens, Royal Womens and Royal Melbourne hospitals, and easy access to the rest of Melbourne, tram right on the doorstep.

I stay at this hotel a lot and find the rooms to be spacious, clean and comfortable. Showers are fabulous with great power. The front office staff are aways friendly and happy to help me. Lucas on the front desk has been an absolute angel with me always chopping and changing reservations to suit business travel changes. I leave some of my business samples and paperwork and they are always happy to store these until my next visit. Restaurant, whilst small, does a great meal. I love that it's in a location easy to get to either the Tullermarine Freeway or the Eastern Freeway and so close to the city. North Melbourne restaurants are a short distance away. Taxis don't take very long either. I always look forward to staying here and it feels more like home than most hotels.

Room Tip: Try for a room close to the elevators if you need easy access. Otherwise, the rooms in the other wi...

Flexibility and good service are pretty big ticks, glad we can look after your needs - we also get a lot of date changes etc from families visiting for the hospital, always happy to help.
Tip, a number of our local eateries have won gongs lately - in particular; Melbourne's Best Coffee! Want to know where? Ask the guys at the desk to point you in the direction or check our out local area blog on the Rydges website ;-)

The Good: Reception staff were attentive and helpful and quickly processed our check in and check out. Room was clean, spacious and the bed very comfortable. The mini bar was fully stocked and reasonably priced. Bathroom also stocked with the usual necessities which is great if you happen to forget something of your own.

The bad: the restaurant was a bit odd. Tables not made up properly - seating for four but place settings for only one or two. Some guests set their own tables. No side plates???? Too bad if you wanted toast at breakfast. Had to use one of the big plates for the hot serves. Food itself was very ordinary. Some not even restaurant quality. More like home cooked and nothing special at all. Expected better – much better. Restaurant is also the bar and it closed at 9.30 pm - bad luck if you wanted a night cap.

The ugly: the hotel is obviously going through a refurbishment. However, it is only partially complete. The door to our bathroom could not be closed because it needs rehanging and the wooden door frame was rotten at the bottom due to moisture. When the refurbishment is complete it will be lovely. For this reason I thought the room rate a bit steep. I expected better from a Rydges hotel.

Room Tip: If you are a light sleeper ask for a room at the back away from Flemington Road.

Good staff and good service are the lifeblood of our industry, we place a lot of emphasis on that with our team.
The bar is open until around midnight - its just the food service which closes - you can always get a drink within reason.
Obviously a number of refurbishment works are happening at various points in the building - its a long process but we are on track and present a pretty good value product, which will only improve further.

The service was friendly, the location is OK (if you need to be on the Northern edge of the City) but that's about where it stops. The rooms are very small, poorly cleaned and the bed was so old it sagged in the middle. My welcome home was a trip to my Chiropractor.

Room Tip: Actually check out the rooms as the online pictures must've been taken in another property.

We value a good nights sleep so will check out the beds in standard rooms and replace if not up to our high standards - a couple have been updated this month already.
Photos were definitely taken here - a number of our lovely staff are pictured in them, all rooms of each type are laid out in the same style, same features so I am confident that the web shots are representative of the product.

Service is very good and staff are very helpful and polite. Rooms could be cleaner, carpets very dirty. Location is excellent with access to trams across road, 16 stops to Elizabeth St terminal. Breakfast offered a good range, cooked breakfast buffet selection food was generally cool to lukewarm only, selections were not replenished often enough and the same happened for cereal bowls. Plenty of off street parking, easy access to city and main roads. Rooms are in need of a spruce up. Unable to block all external noise as one window has fly screen section which cannot be closed off. IGA up the road is very expensive!!

Room Tip: Rooms to rear off both Harker Street And Flemington Roads are quietest, away from lift is advisable.

The location is perfect for trips into the city, and of course for the hospitals across the road. good value parking just $12 per day makes it worthwhile leaving your car and using public transport to get around.
We have just rolled out a new breakfast offering so there may have been some teething issues - recent feedback has been good so I am confident we are on track with this. The new selections look great - try the yoghurt shots for an early morning boost!
There is an alternative supermarket in North Melbourne Village just a few minutes in the other direction, just ask the reception team for directions.

After conferencing in the CBD - was not to chuckles about paying $300 for a friday night bed in order to catch up with friends for the weekend. Booked the hotel based upon the brand and the breakie being included plus a welcome drink for $140.

The hotel is old but clean. The staff are helpful and pleasant. The lift is $%#@$ed. It broke down early friday eveing and being on the second floor we got some free exercise.

Sleep quality whilst a bit traffic noisey we slept in and missed the 10,00am breakfast call. The rooms have open widows and no air con - so Jan - Mar heatwaves could be a problem.

There are a number of hospitals near the local which is obviously it;s main custom.

We do represent pretty good value, especially with our inclusive packages.

Our lift did have an outage over the weekend which has been rectified - everyone got a stairmaster work-out - the reception team certainly got fit over the weekend carrying bags up and down.

All rooms DEFINITELY have air-con, there is an individual remote on the bed in all superior rooms and a wall control unit in standard rooms - summer heat is not a problem - and we also have opening windows to allow for fresh air which is nice in the evenings.

If you prefer a quieter room ask the reception on check in for one facing the rear of the hotel we can usually always accommodate - having said that the majority of guests don't mention the traffic noise, the hotel is set back from the road a fair way.
