“Update the Air Con!!”
Reviewed April 3, 2014

We stayed here for three nights, one of which was reported to have been the "hottest night in Melbourne" in history and we couldn't have the air con on because it was so very noisy! On a more positive note the room was very tidy and serviced well each day, we used room service due to having a baby with us the in room dining menu is slightly limited but the options we chose were good. Incredibly central so easy to get about (once you have sorted the Melbourne streets) this did contribute however to a significant amount of road noise.

Thank you for taking the time to leave a review. It was very pleasing to hear that you enjoyed the hotels prime location and our close proximity to an abundance of shopping strips, eateries and entertainment venues. We grabbed the last room available mid-week. The room was nice and clean and very comfortable. We had a "spa" room, which was literally just a bath with jets in the side - definitely only a one person job.

Breakfast was okay, but the fresh pineapple was off and spoilt what would have been a nice meal.

Parking was $27 for the night, but it did enable us to leave the car there the next morning while we did some shopping.

A bonus was having Her Majesty's Theatre over the road (which we saw a show at), and the Elephant and Wheelbarrow pub on the corner provided a great British meal.

Room Tip: Don't pay extra for the spa room - it's not worth it.

Thank you for taking the time to provide your feedback. It was very pleasing to hear that you were able to enjoy the hotels prime location to Her Majesty's theatre and the abundance of restaurants, pubs and shopping strips that surround us. I apologise for the issue at breakfast, our breakfast is usually a highlight of our guests experience so I will speak with our chefs to ensure this is handled with a little more care in the future. We do hope to have the opportunity of welcoming you back to Rydges Melbourne in the future and thank you once again for your review.

March 2014, we reserved a room at Rydges for our first time stay in Melbourne on the recommendation of a friend. We ended up in a king bed suite on the 18th floor facing Exhibition street. Great view, tidy room, noisy air-con, that goes all the time, here all the city noises, here all the noise in the hallways, and a very unclean cramped bathroom. Upon our arrival, the first impressions were great of the lobby, visual of the front counter, the alcove with the fire going, and the smiling faces of the three reception staff. Check in was gained once the staff member had checked that the room was ready at 4.15pm. It was just. We were welcomed, given our key and explained where our room was, where the restaurant was.
Overall; The bed was very comfortable, The reception staff were very welcoming, The house keeping needs to be upgraded and checked on more often, The bathroom needs to be redesigned so that you can use it without squeezing through the gap to get into the bath/shower, or to sitting on the toilet. The bathroom we believe had not been properly clean for a very long time. The bath could not be used. The staff in the restaurant and hotel were great and a very special thanks to Erica in the bar as nothing was a problem for her. We enjoyed our cocktail hour each night, had great breakfasts, although same food served each day but not a major. We do not believe this hotel is value for money, a place to maybe stopover for one night, as we are in the industry and run a true 5 star complex, we would be unlikely to stay at Rydges Melbourne again for anymore than one night especially at $379 AUD per night.

Room Tip: would be a good overnight stay anymore that one night might be trying.

To begin I would like to say than you to the ladies on the booking reservation who advised me to book online to save money ( and that we did!) . We arrived a little earlier than check in time and we were told that we would be contacted by phone when the room was ready. We were handed 2 coffee vouchers which was a very nice touch and within no time we're were in our room a little earlier than checking time. We requested a top floor and was given it ( 22nd floor!) which was great and we were greeted by chocolates and a hand written card wishing us the best for our wedding anniversary this weekend. We found this very welcoming and especially being hand written very warming !
My only criticism would be the air conditioning which was a little noise but quite affective during the evening and the height of the toilet seat being too small.
I would highly recommend this hotel to my friends as I have done in its friendly manner at the front desk and will defiantly be back again soon. Thank you Claudia and the Rydges Team for the lovely warm card.. Chris

Overnight stay in Melbourne for husband's bday. Lovely, clean room with everything you need. On the small side but perfect for a night out in 'the world's most liveable city!!!' Join up to the hotel's membership for free and get a 1pm late check out, complementary drinks in the funky bar, discount off meals and drinks. We even received a lovely bottle of wine when we arrived to celebrate my hubby's bday. Delicious full buffet brekky in the lovely restaurant all included in our hotel stay. I highly recommend. Only one thing I could say was a bit annoying was the noisy air conditioner in our room but really comfy bed made up for that! Loved our stay. Highly, highly recommend!!!

Payed for a room with a view of the city however our windows were so dirty it wasn't even worth looking out.
There was a Spa bath in the room but the panelling and floor area were appearing tired and old and this needs to be addressed especially for the price we paid.
On our last day there was constant jack hammering going on causing us to wake early even though we had a late checkout, when staff were asked why we were not informed they stated that you in was in our welcome folder which I didn't even have time to read.
Hotel is in a great location and easy for access to most things in the city but sadly I won't be staying here again until things change

Room Tip: make sure you read all welcome info as you might miss the jack hammering that may go on

The rooms were compact and light enough with no view (we were on the 12th floor facing north) other than a painter giving the outside a touch up. The foyuer is fancy (or tacky depending on your slant) but clean welcoming bowls of apples and all staff encountered pleasant and cheery. The bed was comfortable enough some street noise (im a light sleeper), the tv reception a little dodgy but the bathroom was pretty grotty and dont think it really got the house keepers full attention. I didnt raise this with management so i am at fault too. Thewater pressure was fine and the complimentary toileteries werent used. Roof pool was heated and enjoyed a dip too. Buffet breakfast was this joints redeeming feature esp the "hot" section with some genuinely nicely prepared goods esp mushrroms and grilled tomatoes , they even had eggs benedict but as a vegoo had to pass. the pasteries were a little generic but fresh but the muffins were dire with the same mix being divided between sweet and savoury. there was a small selection of asian fare too. wouldnt stay here again as have stayed at more reasonably priced venues (same local and room size) though the breafast and staff were top notch.
