“only positive thing is location”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 25, 2011

Only reason I rated 'poor' and not 'terrible' is due to location and friendliness of staff. Otherwise, rooms are dirty (stains on the carptet, hairs in the bathroom). had to stay there due to shortage of rooms because of Grand Prix, but still overpriced. Room di d not get clean until mid-afternoon 'due to hote beeing busy because of Grand Prix' Well, they knew about it I guess, and you take extra staff. Internet price is just a rip-off (AU dollar 27,50 for 24hours), and they charge you for paying by credit card. In all fairness, staff at front desk was nice. Do not know how they got a 4-star rating.

I picked this hotel because of the location - close to the registry office and the Windsor for a friend's wedding.
We stayed 3 nights we paid a rate of $129 per night on Friday and Saturday and $99 for Sunday.
Had the full breakfast on each of the 3 mornings $28 each (excellent food and I find it cost effective)
Had a meal in the Lime Restaurant on Friday and Saturday night - the food was excellent and cost under $50 with drinks.
My only complaint is the same as that of a previous reviewer (we probably had the same room - 1114). The fan in the bathroom was very noisy and I am a very light sleeper - to be fair I've experienced this problem in other hotels too, however I do think this particular room was exceptionally noisy.

Thank you for your comments regarding your stay at the Mercure Hotel. It is always a pleasure to receive feedback.

While it was very pleasing to note that you enjoyedLime Restaurant, I apologies for the noise in room 1114. Rest assured I will ensure our maintenance manager thoroughly checks the systems there.

certainly a very good location and it's overall an average hotel - more or less what you would expect from a mercure hotel.

2 negative points:
1.) no free water on the room.
2.) surcharge for credit card payments - do they seriously expect international travellers to pay in cash????

We stayed o/night to see a show. Arrived early and our room was ready. Staff enabled us to share with them what we wanted and went out of their way to book reservations and look after our needs.
Thanks, Mercure team

an excellent location to enjoy Melbourne's Moomba Festival and Hairspray. Lovely views of the Dandenong Ranges when we arrived nid afternoon. it was a hot afternoon so great to check in and use the room's facilities before walking up to the Princess Theastre for our show. We had a great evening with dinner in federation Square and watched the fireworks by the Yarra River. Then it was a pleasant walk back to the mecure spring street hotel for a good night's sleep.

My husband and I booked in to stay on a Sunday night at the cost of $169, due to changes we had to stay Saturday night as well at a cost of $199 for the night and we were told it had just gone up to $220 but seeing as we had already booked one night we could have it at the $199.00 rate. I am sure there are reasons but I still think it is unfair that some nights are at a more expensive rate. The rooms are boring and dull

Thank you for choosing the Mercure Melbourne, and sincere apologies you were disappointed with some aspects of your stay.

I acknowledge your comments regarding the different room rates. As with many hotels, we have a dynamic rate structure that facilitates higher rates on busy nights and lower rates when we are no so busy. It seems on this occassion your stay covered two different periods.

You feedback also regarding the rooms will certainly be taken into account when next we have the opportunity to upgrade.

Thank you again, and we hope to have the opportunity to welcome you back to the Mercure in the future.

Yours Sincerely
