Stunning gardens with many varied areas-ducks and swans on lakes, jungle like rainforest, volcano of desert plants and rolling lawns so near to the city away from the hustle. Childrens' garden and observatory interesting also.Recommended to everyone for a tranquil recharge of the soul.

You can't beat the Botanical Gardens for a walk. On the city rim, but a world away from the hustle and bustle. I particularly love the rainforest walk, the lake and some of the gorgeous small pavilions dotted about. Highly recommended.

Melbourne has some of the prettiest gardens I've ever seen in the world. Definitely worth a visit. So beautiful on a summers day - pack a picnic. Moonlight outdoor cinema runs in summer which I highly recommend.

Great place for a picnic on a hot day. Sit under a tree near the lake, ideally where the breeze (if there is one!) has travelled across the water so it's a bit cooling. Dogs are allowed into the Gardens as long as they're on leads. We took books and sandwiches, and it was relaxing and restful.

Middle of a city of 4 million people, a great escape. Great children's garden, good cafes if a little pricey.
