“Great place to unwind”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 21, 2012

I can't say I know much about the different types of trees, plants, etc. Still, it's hard not to leave the Gardens feeling happier than you were when you walked in. They are so beautifully laid out and there are some great areas to relax and unwind in. Spend a few hours there to break up your touring in Melbourne.

“One of the best, if not the best...”

We spent hours in these gardens. You haven't seen Melbourne if you havenn't visited its Botanic gardens.

“Absolutely gorgeous gardens to wander through, feed the ducks, take a picnic ...”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 21, 2012

The gardens themselves are well over 100 years old and are built on land that was once swamp, but you'd never know! Now there are well-formed paths (suitable for wheelchairs), plants and flowers of every type, all beautifully landscaped. Take a picnic or eat in our outside of the restaurant, in the pleasant surroundings of one of the lakes; go for a stroll, or if you're feeling energetic, join the joggers who do a circuit around the outside on 'the tan' (classic Aussie shortening of boTANical gardens).
A wonderful place to spend a most pleasant few hours - and just a short tram ride from the city.

“A lovely place to wander”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 21, 2012

Took us a while to get there as you go through two other gardens to get there when walking from the city centre, but it was worth it. We loved the openness and the variety and kids can runs round and look at the ducks, geese and birds. It's so relaxing and well worth the walk.

“Beautiful and peaceful”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 20, 2012

Take a walk around the perimeter (known as the trendy tan running track to locals), or take the time to walk through the gardens. There is a great cafe inside for a light lunch or coffee to go. Although it's walking distance from the city, the gardens are so beautiful and peaceful that it is easy to forget where you are.
