I have been here many times and I love it each time I go. The huge cinema screen is worth the visit too.

“Interesting way to spend an afternoon”
Reviewed January 28, 2013

The weather was a bit cold for us so we decided to go to the museum. Great decision - wonderful exhibits that will keep young and old engrossed for hours. The Melbourne exhibit was quite informative. The special Mind and Body exhibitions were outstanding, our teenagers really enjoyed spending time here. The 10 year preferred the animal exhibits. There is a very nice cafe that does a great coffee. We also went to the IMAX theatre and watched a short dinosaur film which was great. It is also possible to watch feature films in this theatre e.g. The Hobbit was showing. Definitely recommend to anyone.

“See Pharlap at the museum.”
Reviewed January 25, 2013

The main reason I went to the museum is to see the famous racehorse, Pharlap. His hide is beauifully mounted and on display in a glass case. There are also some other items belonging to Pharlap on display. Pharlap won the 1930 Melbourne cup. He also won many other races and was a hero in his day. Sadly he died young, before his 6th birthday. The museum is good but a little expensive. There are other things of interest there but think the way the old museum was it had more charactor.

“Fascinating day out with some history thrown in.”
Reviewed January 23, 2013

The Museum is located alongside the historic Exhibition Centre and close to the CBD as well as Lygon Street (THE place to eat Italian food in Melbourne). Plenty of parking, albeit not cheap, and you can get two hours free on street parking in the nearby streets though you may find you want to stay longer. The collection is very good and well presented. The kids' area is particularly good with plenty of hands on exhibits. The IMAX theatre which forms part of the complex offers some good movies, including 3D, albeit at extra cost. Seniors and kids receive free entry.
